For a blog that seems to be mostly neutral when it comes to WoW, this article seems a little biased. I'm wondering if someone hasn't been paid to write this or the source material.

I think Brooke is just trying to be as effusive as the source material, not biased. Learn to read things in their context. You could do this for any game.

However, the problems with our economy are things that need to fixed in the long term, and pretending in a game so that you can pretend that things will be back to normal some time or another is probably not really good advice.

Remember, kids, there are no respawning nods in MMOEarth.

You got it! And I will echo that burying your head in the sands of WoW (or any MMO) to avoid RL issues is never a good idea in the long term. Bursts of entertainment are a good way to keep your spirits/energy up in tough times, but taking it too far is unhealthy.

I was simply trying to be as over-the-top as the original article. I believe they took an interesting concept and spun it with satire. I had a good chuckle!

If I weren't so completely bored with WoW altogether and taking a break from it, I'd likely try this out.

Since I play Wow I have RL money in masses :)))

No seriously, MMORPG's (if playing just one !) is saving us money.

I was the guy with hundreds of games and interests. Those who ever played the WH table top game or Magic the CCG know what I talk about.

On average I would consume 3000 to 3500 Euros on a yearly base. With Wow (and still trying to play other new MMO's in their first month) I hardly come to 400 Euros on a yearly base.

My collection of one time played games - from board to PC - is gigantic. Every year I had to throw away games that just lay there - even unopened ones. Sometimes the OS were even expired :)))

I just keep on playing Wow for 3.5 years now and while I play the new ones, they all bore me after one/two months of playing.

Non MMO games are a complete waste of money at the moment to me, so I don't even buy them anymore. I still need to play 95% of Oblivion, but I can't stand the NPC only world after playing for a few hours.

So indeed in times of crisis a good mmorpg is the solution in saving money. And Wow is a jack of all trades, so I am in for the whole ride (never felt better in my gaming life).

The advantage is that I have these real life friends who are galming in the same world, so once a week we meet in RL.

No recession problems for me I guess.

Forgot to add:

My son wanted his horse at level 40 when he turned 14.

Anniversary of a kid was never cheaper :)))

Of course we gave him money on his bank account, but I remember he was more glad with his horse than with a new game.
