I have to agree with Evi. Sure, it was probably a dick thing to do, they handled the PR of it poorly, but I don't think anyone should completely boycott the game because of the actions of some PR folk.

While this isn't something that I'd commend anyone on doing or pat them on the back for it, I do sympathize with Cryptic over whatever happened over at NCsoft HQ. I have been employed in industries that would stab each other in the back over employees and trying to steal each other's competition. So maybe that's why I am not very shocked at all, it happens in all types of places. Especially when grudges are involved.

City of Heroes was Cryptic's baby after all who was taken to court and told to go with daddy because mom wasn't taking of them well enough. Not the greatest analogy but you know what I mean. :)

As pointed out already, boycotting games just because you don't agree with the company will only affect you, and with the way things are going we might as well just stop playing games all together. I was very, very upset over the cash shop in EQ2 and was told by many people that I was overreacting and quite frankly now I think I was.

I still don't like SOE but that doesn't mean I won't play any of their games ever again, that would rob me of some very great experiences.

Business is business. If it isn't illegal, then someone is going to do it. There's very little 'moral' value when it comes to the almighty dollar.

Besides, shouldn't they not be concerned about losing players? I mean, if they think they have the best game they can make, then no one should leave right? If they do, then they aren't doing good enough keeping their game interesting.

Maybe some people are missing a point ...

I don't know about other people who are "boycotting" (not a word I used), but I did mention that the game design had already failed to impress me. The more I read and compare Champs against CoH and the upcoming DC Universe, the less interest I have in Champs.

What this whole message board fiasco has shown is that Cryptic lacks confidence in their own game. If they felt they truly had a superior product to offer, there would be no reason to stoop to such "any means necessary" marketing tactics.

More to the point, if Cryptic were run by people with any sense at all, they would never have hired Ivan Sulic to do their PR.

Completely Unacceptable. If NCsoft went to the cryptic Studio and started asking their internal testers to jump ship they would be kicked out, if they were let in at all. It doesn't surprise me at all though, Jack Emmert and Cryptic have been using ideas from every game they have worked on starting with COH for Champions online. I have no doubt in my mind that a lot of the stuff going into Champions online came straight from the suggestions and ideas thread on the city of heroes forum. Do a search on all the main features in champions and see how many show up in the city of heroes forums. This kind of behavior makes me glad that cryptic no longer has any sway over city of heroes.
