This looks suspiciously like the "The decision has already been taken; now send the Linden who drew the short straw to the forums to make a show of listening"-maneuver which seems to have become common practice for LL. Let's see if M states it as openly this time as he did during the Openspace issue while Jack was doing the song-and-dance routine in the forum.

I'm wary of this change; not so much because of the actual tagging of content, but because LL seems to interpret every age category one step "off". PG is really G, so any remotely mature concept gets kicked into the "offensive sex" category currently, and from the new guidelines, it seems that trend will continue.

Blondin Linden's clarification sounds fairly reasonable, really, but it's not what's actually written, and it's only one Linden's comments in the forum. Last year set precedents of such policies being interpreted with absolute hysteria (with Everett Linden's "No child avatar can be seen in the same image as an adult" probably taking the top spot), so I am worried how this will actually be interpreted and enforced, despite Blondin's words.

"As for Beau's post, let's see how 'rational' it sounds when likewise applied to the internet:"

Oh Dear Dog.

Someone actually used the "what if they censored the Internets one day?"

Please stop, now. This is simply an issue about allowing lil virtual boobies to be shown in certain areas of a video game.
It is not about free speech or anything that deep, I assure you.
Naughty stuff goes here, non-naughty stuff goes there.

It's that simple.

But... what is naughty?

Will nipples (on men) be banned?
Will collars be banned?

Who defines what will be allowed in these new cleaned up mainland continents?

Well, at least with Robin gone it won't be as bad as Nipplegate was. ... or will it? ...

That is all yet to be determined, but the Lab assures me that not all the naughty stuff will be going. Only 3-4% of it will need to move.

Though how that estimate is arrived at without finalized definitions, I'm not at all certain.

They keep saying that only 'extreme' but what is extreme? This is still yet to be determined. And what of the land owners? No word on that. Also, if the smut reservation gets full, are they going to create more, or just limit the smut to what is there already - effectively ending any new adult content?

I remember when they banned ageplay, and kept saying 'child avatars are still a welcomed and valued part of the SL community' - yet banned them from their birthday party? How welcomed and valued is that?

Seems to me, a way to heap enough bad experiences onto the adult purveyors, to make them want to leave SL.

didn't they said this was just about anything that can be considered "broadly offensive"..?

...I'm kinda worried about the witch hunts this move will trigger...

It is an interesting change from "broadly offensive" content not being permitted at all.

I really think this sucks personally. I think they need to ask all the users of sl before they just go changing things. I hang out at mature parties and stuff. I enjoy this. Why the hell should I change just because sl asks me too. We'll see how this goes. gl on sl enforcing this. I know alot off ppl that arent happy about it now.

You lindens are always fooking with something. OMFG can't you just leave shit the way it is. I pay alot of money for my avatar and the skins I have and you wanna tell me where I can go.

All I can say is the griefers need to stop their damn whining all the time. I like my sl just the way it is. Leave us the fook alone and go play gd wow ya retards!

That's all I have to say, I'm pissed off about friends account that isnt verified!!!!

You lindens need to fix shit that doesnt work before you go ripping the guts out of sl and changing everything. Your sim is gonna die you keep it up. Is that what you want? All I have to say. ;X

I think combining the adult and teen grids is a very bad move. I spend time on There.com which has only one world for all people over 13 years old. Kids annoy the adults often. It is not a good thing at all.

Well, it's a good thing that the Lab says they have no plans to do that, then :)
