they come from crafters who learn the "taming" skill. Mounts aren't just vehicles to get you from point A to B either; they can swim and attack (kicking and biting). They can also be stolen by other players, killed, and healed.
So it's basicly like back in UO

Did the review talk about how empty the world is? The game is completely lacking NPCs... This game is a huge failure... :-\

David, I touched on that issue in my first article on the Darkfall beta review.

It's fun to see the trolls come out of the woodwork and comment with authority about a game when they've formulated their opinions based on articles and screenshots.

It's especially funny when their comments are attached to an article linked to someone's blog who is actually playing the game and having a blast.

I haven't played the game yet, but I've been told that this was done partially on purpose, as they don't want a bunch of NPCs taking the place of players, or somethin'.

The pvp in this game intrigues me. The only games that I PVPed in were SWG and WoW. SWG was alright, there was almost no ganking involved. WoW has all sorts of problems and encourages ganking.

This on the other hand has even more free PvP than both other games. Kill anyone, anytime, any reason, but pay the consequences. Perfect.

I also like how they eliminated levels it seems, Everything is skill based. Perfect.

Sounds like the perfect MMO to break the mold.

Though it sounds good on paper, I'm interested in seeing how it actually works. Planning and Execution are 2 different beasts.

I hope that this game can do well, not because I'm cheering for the game, but because I'm scared for the MMO market. All of the games that are coming out are virtual clones of each other, trying to play off the success of WoW.

This game -could- be what saves the market from boring WoW wannabe's. If it does well, maybe that will open a few more doors for companies to explore.

I hope so, but I doubt it. While DF is new(er) it's a very similar game to that of EQ and UO.

The way that "innovation" is rerquested, and then ANY innovation that's implimented is belittled, leads me to think that investors would say "They don't know what they want. WoW is sucessful. They want WoW. Make WoW."

Until the attitude of the people going to message boards and forums change to not be so dismissive and insulting of everyone and everything, we'll be in WoW clone hell for a long time.

Sorry, it's not breaking any molds in any way.

It's a return to a mold (Ultima Online) that some people loved, and more people hated.

The developers are very candid about this. They wanted to make an up-to-date game for people who loved UO, and that's exactly what they did.

It's not going to "save" anything, but hopefully it will give PvP/sandbox enthusiasts a place to play so they can stop trying to turn every MMO in development into UO.

Hell if UO was like this game, why didn't I play UO? It sounds fun.

Then again, I saw the screenshots, and instantly shunned away. Top-down games haven't appealed to me since "A Link to the Past".

Hopefully the failure of Dark N Light 2 will mean it is forgotten in a month.

Lol at the trolls. It's like people have a personal vendetta against this game and they cant except the fact that people are having a good time.

Recently the guild I'm in spearheaded a raid on a clan hamlet along with our allies. Here's a vid I put together. (Sorry for the low quality.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OoSxVbsEP4

It was an awesome battle, check out the opinions from the people who were actually there.

The game rocks and is worth checking out for anyone who likes pvp and is ready to graduate from WOW or other similar games where the pvp is meaningless.

Lol? If that's 'awesome', I'd love to see what you think sucks. Just have to make sure I'm not drinking at the time, don't want beverage shooting out my nose.

I thought the video was awesome. I haven't played the game or really made any assumptions except the fact that it sounds like something I would enjoy.

WoW doesn't appeal to me anymore. I've played it thoroughly had 2 chars to 70, 1 to 80, about 5 more to 60+, played on pvp server, raided, did tons of BGs. Leveling my DK, I finally realized how hollow and empty the game play was. So I left it forever. Unfortunetly, a lot of games are following the same trend.

This game wants to be different. Just because its not a clone of WoW doesn't mean it sucks. It just doesn't appeal to you, again that doesn't mean it sucks.

However, it may ACTUALLY suck. but until you have actually played it (and I don't mean sitting there for 20 minutes then leaving) you can't really knock it.

I'd give you a review of the game, its systems, the PvP action and all that.......if only I could actually purchase the game...I've given up now, I don't have the time or patience to await random store opening times and clicking refresh till it closes again.....

DF is not doing well, really no one wants to play it...like last night I couldn't get on the server.

10,000 people were on, I was waiting in a queue - everyone playing is have the most fun with an mmo they can remember. Those of you that are unable to play...well yeh, you just hang around forums trolling in your misery. What a sad lot you are.

Absolutely having a blast with the game. It's been a long time since i've felt addicted to an mmo again. I didn't have that feeling with war, aoc , lotro ... I just quit after a couple of weeks and have never missed them since.

I've killed people , had hillarious moments , helped building a huge city, did raids , went farming monsters , started doing crafting.

Really loving this game, even unpolished and still missing some features, I find it to be a lot more enjoyable then the other mmo's i've played.

Not my kind of game, but the trolling on it is kinda silly. Play what you like and don't feel like you have to trash the competition.
