I mostly play MMOs with local, long-time friends, but this one time I duo'd for about 30 levels with a warlock I met in WoW. Eventually we started planning to meet up somewhere in the summer (along with a few others in the guild). Turns out the warlock not only lived in my town, she was attending the same college as me.

That's the closest I've ever been to traveling to meet up with someone from a MMO, but then again, with so many of the people that play with me being RL friends it's not really necessary.

My online friends and I have known each other going on 10+ years and we regularly have gatherings. I'm on the wrong coast for most of them so I have only met 1 but most of the others regularly get together.

We all met playing Counter-Strike and Team Fortress but have gone through most of the MMOs together.

I've played a lot of MMO's with some RL friends and my spouse.

Although I have made some online "friends" over the years I haven't ever really made an effort to meet any and don't really have a desire to do so.

A guy I became friends with on guild wars came up to see me once. We talked for three years before he did, but it was still extremely awkward. Especially because my husband didn't particularly like the guy or the idea of meeting anyone from a game in real life.
I would never do it again. Internet friends are meant to be on the internet.
I'll meet people I want to actually see in the real world. :D

My partner and I both have played WOW since its launch. We've never traveled specifically to meet MMO friends, but on a trip to the UK we stayed for 10 days with folks we only knew through online raiding, and we detoured to meet some other fellow raiders during a family visit. We've been very pleased with these meetings and continue to see these friends both on and off-line.

That said, I don't want to meet everyone I play with online. I'm picky. Some friends are better off kept at a distance.

I became very good friends with people met in WoW. After playing with them for a couple years, I have now flown out to the east coast twice to meet up with them. We now all plan annual get together and we dont even play MMOs together anymore, at least for now since we burned out.

Met a couple of good friends from MMO's. Some I got along with quite well, others were absolute freaks who were walking cliche's.

All in all, a mixed bag.

Oh yes!

I've attended Dragon*Con to hang out with my pals from Anarchy Online. I've also met some Second Life folks at a convention. I've hung out with gamer friends at Blizzcon as well.

I'll be meeting up with peeps again at PAX this year. It's always a blast to spend time face-to-face with people I've known for a long time in virtual space.

I play WoW with a handful of RL friends. In addition, I've met quite a few guildies and random internet friends over the years. Later this month my fiance and I will be traveling with four other RL friends/guildies to vacation in Las Vegas. While there, we'll be meeting up with the guild leader and his wife. I'm really looking forward to it.
