Multiboxing. It sounds like cheating when you have one man controlling two or more characters, but it's more of a pain to work with than it is a straight out cheat. Whatever your feelings are on the situation though, you have to admit, people who do multiboxing have some tremendously interesting setups and rigs to accomplish this difficult feat.
The Escapist has just let loose a feature article detailing the stories of users who multibox, why they do it, and exactly how they accomplish it on their game of choice. It's a very interesting look at the whole situation, especially when the reasons of why these normal people choose to run more account at once in their favorite game rather than just join groups or work solo are fully explained.
If you're interested in reading the full five page feature article, head on over to The Escapist and check out what Greg Tito was able to uncover.

Man these people who do this shit really need to get out and see the world before they realise they wasted their life on a game.

@Cray: Umm, no. There are quite a few high-paying careers that require minimal human contact. Making money is in no way synonymous with seeing the world or having a life.

moo,
It takes about the same amount of time to level 5 characters from 1-80 as it does to level 1 character from 1-80. Multiboxing isn't a show of having an excessive amount of time on your hands, but more that you're looking for an extra challenge in the game. Multiboxing isn't an easy-mode Iwin button. It's quite hard to do and even harder to do well. Take it from someone who has had marginal success dualboxing.

Multi-boxers who PVE I have no cares about. It's during PVP it raises the big issue. Is it cheating when 1 person can control 2-6 characters with the press of 1 key?
Absolutely.
The simple reason is there is no delay when those extra characters pick their targets, assist in attacks or cast those heals, its all done with 1 simple key stroke. There's no need to co-ordinate and communicate with your team mates when they function as 1 unit.

Actually go to youtube and use the keyword multibox wow, you will find a couple in there the users admit to being assdeep in debt with multiple credit cards to finance these rigs.
Though as stupid as these are i do suppose there are the exceptions that are just rich and want to do it.

You people need to break this stigma that most WoW players have no life...
Sweeping generalizations just make you look short-sighted and ignorant.
On the topic of multi-boxing... It's hard work. I've never been able to get it down like those who are commited. I'm a little more relaxed about my playing, but if you want to take it up to that next level, more power to ya.

With today's multi-core cpus and the low cost of RAM there is no reason to invest in multiple boxes to run multiple instances of wow. Wow is soo old it takes very little CPU/GPU usage at all on a modern system.
I can run 3 instances of wow and watch a dvd on my machine and it is no where close to top of the line. Q6600 with 4gb of RAM and an 8800GTS. I only multiboxed to RAF up some extra players to 60.
Moo saying you have no life if you multibox I have to agree that it is no more time consuming if you have 1 or 5 accounts running at the same time. In my example I got 3 characters to 60 in a total of 1.3 days played. There is no way I could do that playing one at a time.
