Weird.

Well someone at Reuters really, really likes buying islands.

They probably have a nice Gorean skybox at 3,000 Meters (With appropriate branding of course)

You are right!

I don't know how the science lab fits into that RP scenario. If they aren't Gorean than there is probably some kind of Elf community there.

The Thomson Fae of Reuters.

This is weird, but not surprising: I can imagine that Reuters is big enough to have different departments, and one of them might just have been at one of several workshops on virtual journalism and didn't want to miss the boat... while not having any idea about what other departments had already done with SL :)

Big corps are often like that.

Granted, it's still strange!

Perhaps with the shuttering of print media like the Rocky Mountain News (and certainly more to follow), maybe Reuters is re-thinking their online retrenchment. The tangible upside with a SL presence is obviously not that great, but it's not costing them much and gives the appearance of being new media that won't go the way of the newspapers.

The Thomson Scientific sim had been in SL for quite a while. I first found it maybe a year ago. (I try to keep track of all science-related things in SL.)

Thomson is a very big company.

Indeed it has. But why the sudden rename and removal of the Thomson Scientific branding on the island in favor of the Thomson Reuters name and branding. And why now *two* Thomson Reuters islands. The names are identical except for the space between the two words.

Reuters has responded, but not yet given us any information we don't already have. Still digging.

I figured it out!

Because of all the media stories saying *everyone* is leaving SL since Reuters announced they were, companies now believe you must actually transform your sim into a Reuters branded environment just to close down; like it's a rule.

The fact that this sim is under the Thomson's umbrella of brands is purely coincidence.

Let us not forget "The L Reuters" sim closure of recent weeks.

(I'm being silly.)

I like the picture with this story, expressing disinterested confusion.

Did Reuters ever bother to have a photographer in SL? What few pictures they had I remember being really dry and poorly done.

On NWN he quoted one of the reporters saying his SL gig was "boring" and "creepy" and "just a job."

I can't imagine Reuters sending someone to Bosnia or Wall Street or wherever if they had that kind of attitude.
