In WoW, in Outland, there's a Engineering trainer named K. Lee Smallfry. Definitely my favorite reference. Shiny!

The coolest reference (for me, anyway) is in WoW's beginning WoW undead zone, Deathknell. One of the newbie quests leads a player to find a bunch of undead fellows whose names are references to some members of the late, great Southern California quirk rock band, Oingo Boingo. (Probably the most recognizable of these names would be Daniel Ulfman - referencing front-man Danny Elfman, of course.)

It's a dead man's party indeed.

In WoW, there are two references I love most of all.

The first being the Male Draenei gun/crossbow reloading animation. Coming of course from the famous shotgun reloading in Terminator 2.

The second is Harrison Jones who has two appearances. One in the troll temple of Zul'Aman. And again in a troll temple in Grizzly Hills. Especially the second appearance is great because he gives the quest "Dun-da-Dun-tah!" in which you (of course) help him to safety out of the dangerous old temple.

I laughed out loud when I saw the "Dun-dah-dun-tah!" quest. It just topped off my happiness at seeing Harrison Jones again.

I'd have to say I love the Kayley=Firefly reference in Zangarmarsh for the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor quest line.

I've always found it amusing that Gorillas in World of Warcraft have a high chance of dropping barrels.

I love all the pop references, but when the goblin engineer trainer in Warsong Hold started giving a parody of the speech from Glengarry Glen Ross, I L'd my freakin' AO.

"A. B. C. A-Always. B-Be. C-Crafting. Always be crafting. Always be crafting!"

My favorite is the group of NPCs walking around Exodar that have the names of former "Dax" hosts from Deep Space Nine... It took me a second, but when I realized it I was laughing pretty hard :)

The bankers in SW, each one's first names are Olivia, Newton, and John.

Two mages in the purple room in Dalaran named Burroughs and Ginsberg an obvious reference to beatnik poets. (Although I did spend a ridiculous amount of time scouring Dalaran for a mage with the name of Kerouac.)

Area 52, in itself a pop cultural reference, has a goblin wandering around reciting words from Elton John's Rocket Man song.

I think it's sometimes clever how Blizzard incorporates pop culture references in the game, from more obvious ones like the "Haris Pilton" spoof in Shattrath to subtle ones, like the tag on Firefly non-combat pets "Still flying..." in reference to the show of the same name. Homages to other video games are abound in WoW, and ones related to Nintendo (such as gorillas dropping barrels, and the Linken questline) gave me a chuckle.

There are two that always stuck out for me. One is in WoW's Underbelly (sewers) in Dalaran. Next to a pipe in the arena-related NPC area, you can spot a rat talking to four turtles, surrounding the rat in a semi-circle. Gotta love that TMNT reference. Secondly, in a nod to "Portal," one of the cooking-related achievements is called "The Cake is Not a Lie."

I found "Harrison Jones" in ZA to be quite funny. He was dressed like Indiana Jones and Had Harrison Ford's first name, and he was in a temple enviroment. Coincidence?

I'm afraid I'm entrenched in WoW, so that's all I know. But there are a few doozies of nerdom that always get me.

For one, if you go to the Dalaran sewers in the Black Market, you can find a shark swimming in the water named 'Segaceci', with the title . This is a reference to the game 'Sewer Shark' on the 'Sega CD' system (get it?)

The one that really gets me is the group of five dranei that walk through the Hall of Lights in the Exodar. Their names (Tobin, Emony, Audrid, Torias, and Curzon) just happen to be the names of the first five hosts of the 'Dax symbiote' from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Just so nerdy...
