Sorry, but this is about sexist as the CEO who said women players don't like to be Warriors. Secondly, Free Realms isn't targeted to hardcore players (don't assume I'm talking about male players) looking to gank some poor sap.

You do realize this is a complete satire piece written by a male, right?

I don't understand the draw to Free Realms. To me, it looks like the American Hello Kitty Online.. I could sure use some enlightenment.

I think you nailed it on the head. It's not meant to be WoW-esque. More like a social website with 3D interaction and RPG elements.

Is it just me or does Free Realms look like WoW for kids?

If that's their intent, what's the problem with that?

Nice article with some valid and thought provoking suggestions.

I would prefer another choice of Dinosaur however. As we all know T-Rex had very small arms with almost no biceps, which is not very manly. Also the smoking jacket would fall off as T-Rex doesn't really have any shoulders to speak of. Another negative would be that T-Rex is not able to smoke a pipe, again due to its short arms.

Other than that you have some great ideas, Sony should employ you as a designer or something.

As far as I know, Sony is marketing it as family-friendly, not specifically kid-oriented. But yeah, I can't shake the feeling that an awful lot of adults are going to be skeeved out by the fact that all of the avatars, at least all of the ones we've seen so far, look like they're no older than 14.

Well considering Wizard101 apparently just got it's 1,000,000 account (I think) and it came out like 4 months ago, it looks like the family friendly genre was waiting to be filled.

Yep, my kids (9 & 6) enjoyed Wiz101 but it didn't hold their interest since they had played TOP online and were more used to "open" features. I think this will be perfect for them and I will be right in there playing along with them...........that is when I am not over on Trollbane :)
