I won't buy this game on promises of what it could be like in a few years. I hope the features they have at launch are solid.

Is it me, or is this City of Heroes with a new skin? The descriptions of powers sounds word for word what CoX has.

Maybe this is the game, that Cryptic was hoping to put out instead of the CoX.

Even the statement about shapeshift is word for word from CoH beta. "We would like to have it, but...we want it right....not at release." Shapeshifting never made it into CoX before Cryptic picked up Champions Online.

I feel the same way Avyn. If you watch the videos you'll even see some of the character animations from CoH in there.

Nothing wrong with that, as CoH is fun but it does seem a little too close to home and I'm not yet seeing what's going to drag me away from CoH.

I won't buy it, period. It's just barely above a CoH clone.

Cryptic will get my money w/ STO (if it's polished and as broad as they're promicing), but CO mimics CoH so much, that I don't see how they'll pull the player base from the first Superhero, niche, MMO they created. Additionally, they'll have to compete w/ DCUO. I just don't see any clear "winner" for the Superhero MMO.

CO looks like CoH2. From body models, to enviorments, to even their mobs. Same travel powers. Same "attack" types (but w/ color custimization, which was a given considering how long & many CoH players have asked for it) and no playable villians... which is the same mistake they made w/ CoH. What possible PvP componant can they provide for heroes fighting heroes other then "practice". The arenas failed in CoH. I'd have thought they'd learn from that.

DCUO is... ok, I guess. But, even in the recent vid they showed, the "frozen enemy" had no weight to it. It tumbled around, hitting cars and street polls doing no damage, like the "ginormous block of ice" was made of cardboard.

CoH is just showing it's age now. W/ so much new tech, and the confounded code that it was created on (which severally limits how much they can do... at least accourding to evey other post by Castle or BABs) how can they attract new players and stay relivant? That coupled w/ being ran by the worst house out there right now, NCSoft doesn't bode well for them long term.

shrug, we'll see. I just see the superhero MMO market as taking a down turn. I honestly suspect, that once again, Marvel will sit back, let eveyone else make the fuck ups, and come in guns-a-blazing to make their mark. They've done it w/ Comics, Movies, and I think they will w/ MMOs now too.

If your last paragraph is how the superhero MMO market goes, then I have no problems with that. I never played CoH but CO and DCUO both looked interesting at first. The DCUO video I with the psionic clown looked very disappointing to me and my hopes for CO are falling since besides the customizable nemesis nothing interests me. I would much prefer a Marvel setting (X-Men specifically) but so far no superhero game looks interesting enough to pull me out of LOTRO.

I will give it a try. I am currently playing CoX, am actually new to the game...sorta, could never get into it till I started lookign at CO. If it is similar to CoH then I am all for that, as it is fun. As for DCUO, I will wait as Sony has really soured me on playing their games.

I'm all for a COH2 that isn't run by NCSoft and with a better engine. Throw in a new mythos, new missions, and far more customization, and you have an excited customer in me.

Add in STO and a 3rd MMO down the line, and give me global access to all of them through one price plan, and I'm likely to be around a long time.

Maybe I'm missing something but so far, though, that seems to be ALL it is. I've yet to see the feature that makes me go, "Ah, so it's a NEW game" or get me excited. Which is a shame, as I want to like CO and be excited about it but all I've seen of it just leaves me cold.
