NetDevil has released a new Jumpgate Evolution trailer showing off quite a bit of gameplay footage, including our first look at the much-promised capital ship battles.
It'd be an understatement to say that as fans of things like space shooters, Battlestar Galactica and the original Star Wars trilogy, this trailer delivers a lot of excitement. In fact, we hope that Codemasters and NetDevil can figure out how to get stuff like this alongside any upcoming space movies or television series.
June 2009 and beta can't come soon enough, but until then we'll keep updating you with the latest information and news regarding Jumpgate Evolution. Check out the video after the break.

The trailer fails to get me excited. But does a good job of showing me the dog-fights.

I disagree, it doesn't even do that. If this is a dogfighting style space game, why aren't we seeing any shots from inside the cockpits? If this turns out to be shoulder-cam dogfighting, I'm entirely uninterested.
The only reason I'm looking to play Jumpgate and not EVE is because I hearken from the days of Descent, XWing vs. TIE and Freelancer. I even keep a joystick on the shelf for such a game to return.
I just did some quick research to find the official forums saying that cockpit view is lackluster. I think I might be falling off this bandwagon.

Didn't EVE already release a expansion? Why are they doing a second one?

I'm with Lemmo I loved X wing vs tie fighter and MMO with that kind of dogfighting space combat would be awsome.

There isnt enough here to excite me yet, while the dev's have promised more than what is scene here, I am still looking for all sorts of things having to do with customization, combat mechanics, some noticeable difference between ships, aside from size.
Having different colored engine streams and multiple firing rates of lazards doesnt present much depth, even Star Wars had Proton Torpedoes.
Wtb Content along with complex combat.

JGE will have both 1st person and 3rd person views, they're still working on 1st person/cockpit view though and doubt they're going to show it off until it's polished like they want. There will also be more than just laser/projectile fighting too, missiles/torpedoes and the like will be a part of the universe as well.
And for the uniformed guy mentioning EVE, other than being a space based game this is nothing like EVE. Even though it all happens in real time, EVE is still a more traditional MMO point-and-click game based on stats and skills and digital dice-rolling behind the scenes; JGE is a true space combat sim MMO and whether you miss or hit and where you hit exactly is all based on your skill as a pilot.

We need to see FPS cockpit view. It has to impress with a great HUD, switches, levers, maybe the back of my characters head...I don't want outside the ship Eve style visuals...people want to connect with an avatar.
