What's this job posting for? Maybe they really wanted to say....

To ignore player feedback and to redesign a game from the ground up, without telling players, prior to a retail expansion being released?

or is it too design assets that players have to pay additional money on top of their subscriptions for, which look superior to current in game items.

...or is it to go through people's tells, to pick out juicy bits of information for further investigation, then sell the information to the highest bidder?

heheh I jest, but this 'leak' has a whiff of damage control, probably to stimulate discussion on the future of the he EverQuest franchise, maybe? hmmm Things just don't seem to go well for SOE, time for a change at the top!

Anyway SOE, I'll take the job, if I get the same working conditions Brad McQuaid got, I hear he had it pretty easy, did fuck all and got a nice golden handshake too :)

Although this *could* be for EverQuest 3, isn't another possibility that it could be the (possibly) ambitious Ramayan 3392 AD MMO ?

http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/09/soe-announces-ramayan-3392-a-d-mmo/

Of course, I guess since Ramayan is technically announced, it might not count as entirely "new", it's also quite possible that development of the game hasn't really started yet (we certainly haven't been hearing much news about it lately), so as far as that goes, SOE would still consider it new enough (and under the radar enough) to describe it this way.

The only reason Everquest ever attained the success that it did was due to persistant online games being a novelty at the time. As for 'depth'...well...if you consider sitting in the same spot in the same dull, lifeless zone and grinding on the same mobs ad nauseum, then sitting on your ass and staring at a book for half an hour to regain your mana/health to be 'depth'...then I suppose that, yes, Everquest has quite a bit of it.

Warcraft is shallow as can be and requires no thought process whatsoever. This goes for the lore and for the game itself. Hell, Blizzard even had to go back and rewrite parts of the lore to make up for all the stupid shit they introduce with every patch. I don't recall SoE ever doing that with EverQuest. You just want someone to hold your little baby hand every step of the way to level 80. Don't call yourself a gamer, you insult the rest of us.

I don't call myself a gamer.. thats just sad. If you watch movies you don't put a gay name to that lol.

Sorry but Warcraft Lore and art just owns the mediocre Everquest Play Warcraft 3 and FT and you'll understand why so many people love WoW.

The subscriber numbers speak for themselves really WoW = 10 million players and Everquest franchise on the whole doesn't even hit 500k.

I played Everquest in 2000 and it wasn't fun back then with a crap UI, movement, combat, classes, art, pvp etc etc. WoW is an improvement in every single way and get anyone to play the two games now and see which one they pick because it'll be WoW every time.

EQ was only big cus it had no competition.

I played WC3 and TFT and there was no depth whatsoever. EQ's lore was insanely deep if you took the time to seek it out and learn more about it. But, being the WoW worshiper that you are, I'm sure you can't find the motivation. Something tells me you probably can't even find your genitals without the of a conspicuous yellow exclamation point.

LOL if you actually think EQ's lore is better because popularity shows different. Don't come out with that mc donalds argument that people who like shit games always seem to use because they're two different things. People eat at Mc Donalds for convenience and play games as a time sink for fun.

I have looked into lots of the EQ lore back when playing and I thought it was bland and generic and just not interesting. The world they created is a bore and the characters were just crap. Where as with Warcraft you have such an epic story with amazing characters such as Arthas and Illidan which EQ just doesn't have. Then you move into other Blizzard games and they are just the same, Diablo and Starcraft again have amazing stories with an amazing cast of characters.

I love quest indications because that way I know who gives out quests and who doesn't. Saves that tedious task to clicking on everyone and wasting so much time doing something that isn't fun and is pointless. I'd rather being doing the quest than still searching for who's giving them out lol. Thats why the system was put in place because people didn't find EQ's way fun. Also EQ was never known for its good quest system and it wasn't until WoW came along that it defined quest based progression.

Probably just a new everquest expansion or them doing an NGE or redesigning old zones.

Everquest and UO started it all, so good to see that it is still going strong. I think SOE should start a new franchise. I'd LOVE to see a DRAGONLANCE MMO. So much lore. Can't believe it hasn't been done yet.

I have no idea why, but the kitten behind the SOe logo makes me LOL. :)

For you guys arguing WoW vs EQ... It's silly, they are 2 completely different markets. It's not Coke vs Pepsi, it's more milk vs Gatorade. Both drinks, completely different depending on what you want to do with them. And it's an old argument that's really done. Talk about a dead horse.

In my opinion WoW is mindnumbingly bland and boring such that I don't care if the lore is good or not. EQ did have a huge amount of deep lore, and I enjoyed it back in the day when I played. It definitely has tedium though, and modern MMOs have made great improvements on the model EQ pioneered pretty well.

Anyway, I generally like SOE and am interested to see what this new flagship product is. However, considering Smed's quote awhile back saying that all SOE products will also be available on PS3, I'm not sure that after Vanguard I'll be signing up for too many SOE products, as I prefer more in-depth games that I'm not convinced can/should be well put on a console.

While it is possible to be a new EQ game, I am willing to bet that this is for "The Agency".
