Not that I'm the only one to have tried to get teh Shadowrun IP but the IP for a computer game is a mess. Wizkids owns the PnP game rights and the setting/gameplay rights; Microsoft owns the single player computer game rights; Infrogrammes owns any Online game rights. There's a few others with their hands in it as well. That was based on the fallout a few years back with Fasa Studios. It's too bad because with all the different players in the game, the MMO will never see the light of day unless someone special comes along that can convince these groups that a smaller piece of a big pie can still be good money.

If you know anything about Shadowrun, it makes for the perfect PvE style MMO. One part WoW/EQ, one part SWG and a perfect PnP game system for use in a CRPG/MMO. The IP is also very flexible in that if WizKids allows it, the MMO could explore all kinds of places the books and PnP campaigns never touch. About the only other IP that is that flexible from a story standpoint is Star Trek and that world is lacking a definitive game system in the PnP world. It should make sense to do a Shadowrun MMO except that the IP arrangements don't make sense and that's sad.

You must not know about the 'Wild Frontiers' setting. (www.frontier1859.com/mmorpg) finally, no elves.

All great ideas but for me the only MMO I want to see is a fully recreated version of the Malazan world in the Steven Erikson books. Its so amazingly in depth and the perfect setting for an MMO. Would take a lot of time and money to create though...

I have been complaining for many years about the lack of
a shadowrun MMO...It really is perplexing to me that it was never done. You would have a pretty large fanbase to draw from. It would be something fresh that nothing else really touches on (except neocron, which, well, never really did it for me at all..)
Definitely another great choice would be a full on Battletech Universe MMO. There are a few very well run
mekwars servers that follow the rules pretty much to the letter. Some level2 some level3 even, with a variance in campaign of some being strictly IS, with the older tech, and 'sphere houses fighting amongst themselves, while some others do sphere v clan, and there was one real good one that was pure clan v clan...
Another one I always thought would be a great online conversion, would be Paranoia! Its a bit more of an obscure one, even for the old pen-and-paper RPGers...but it was loads of fun.
Props on the article - too bad the research teams for the game companies don't ever look into what people really want to play, (in some cases, been wanting to for YEARS..) and instead just crank out another elf and goblin infested, bow shooting, sword lugging POS warcraft clone. If I never log into a game and see a freakin elf or dwarf again, it would be juuusst peachy :)

Would blow so much money and time on a Disgaea mmo lol. Would also love something Steampunkish. Although I think my top contender would be something along the lines of Grandia! ^^

Transformers!?! Hell yeah! That would make an awesome MMO. Harry Potter would make a cool MMO if it was geared toward everyone, not just kids.

Just call me the High Priest of the Shadowrun MMO. I shall preach on till my tongue and my fingers fall from their collective locations!
Seriously, do you know how fun it would be to do raid style "runs" with your friends? Especially if you had a small group doing the grid mini game turning off security cameras, locking down the elevators etc? Aztechology wouldn't stand a chance against my crew, null sheen chummer.
