I for one would be thrilled if much more MMOs used this type of server idea in their system. Especially the more infamous ones like WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, and others that have seen significant changes from launch to present. There's usually a vocal community for these and other games desiring to play the game it originally was and I support that.

There's always the possibility for increased marketability with this too. The regular players can keep on doing what they're doing, and the older, more devoted players can revisit the style they know and love if they desire. Nobody loses, it caters to all fans of the game, and lowers the possibility of private servers taking away from profits.

Here's hoping Mythic follows through, and it inspires others to follow.

I would still be playing daoc if not for trials of atlantis. I loved the open rvr that happened fast and constantly, the keep sieges, relic raids, everything. Hell I even loved darkness falls gank raids hitting me and my buddies while pve'ing. What I did not like about atlantis was that it suddenly forced you to be a hardcore 30hr+ a week player to have a chance against everyone else suddenly. I absolutely hate being forced to pve for gear and mastery levels (without pvp breaks even in between) before i stand a chance of...well anything. If they could roll it back to pre-atlantis id try and play again

Massively, thanks for picking this story up. I hope that since the players and fans cannot get through the communication embargo, maybe you can.

I'm pretty sure what happened is they wanted as many people to buy Warhammer as possible rather than renewing their old DAOC accounts, so they scraped the project indefinitely.

It's a shame too; it was a great idea and I would have played it. After seeing my old guild all buy, play Warrhammer for a while and then quit I'm happy I never bought into that shitty game.

I sure hope they are still going to do this, daoc was the game for me and no other mmo has been able to fill that void. While I enjoyed the classic servers somewhat, nothing could beat the feeling of the original game. I even miss the PvE grind (I know, I know, its an RvR game!), starting in prydwen keep, getting buffed by passing wizzies at the bridge, moving from camp to camp and having a laugh wide-eyed at what awaits at 50 in the frontiers (the old ones!).

I know the exact same feeling wont ever return but anything close to playing in the same conditions would be great for me. I'd even play in the old graphics!

Oh, and Game Offline Again need to close excal and prydwen since its way beyond death and if at all possible transfer those chars across to mythics servers.

Apparently a few days ago, I think before I wrote this, Mark Jacobs said this on a thread on the Warhammer VN Boards:

"In terms of Origins, I've had no comment on it because I've got nothing to say on it yet. Frankly, I've never had anything to say about Origins so I'm not sure how *I* could hyped it or lied about it."

Mythic should be held accountable, and I thank Massively for picking up my article to help get the word out.

I too would be playing DAoC if it weren't for ToA's gear and arms race and Catacombs' perpetually OP classes. I was still playing a very short time after that Mino x-pac which added more of the same. The Mauler class wasn't OP out-right, but the direction they chose for it made it tough to deal with (much like WoW's DK), and the dungeon was like a bloated Darkness Falls with more crazy loot buried within it.

The New Frontiers release was refreshing for a few months but then I realized I missed the simplicity of old Emain and entire Midgard frontier. Albion was the only frontier requiring a face-lift.

I'd likey come back if they rolled back to a point back before any of the above and were to discount the subscription cost, or I would definitely come back if they were to completely overhaul the graphics engine and add a little physics while rolling the content back.

They could even take what they learned from WAR and throw in a little of the best-received aspects.

What i don't understand is after these articles were released mythic FINALLY gives us a shitty update the next day after customers begged and begged for information for 6 months(TERRIBLE). And all the update is is one sentence saying more information coming in the following weeks. The next week is the first week in a long time they don't even do a grab bag, go figure right? Maybe they laid off the person who does grab bag.
