"Couldn't be more than a few months."

Boy, there is a pre-beta quote I hope doesn't come back to haunt her.

This game actually looks pretty inventive not just by free mmo but by mmo standards in general. It’s quite clear they’re not trying to make a pvp, raiding, gear collecting game like WoW and any other mmo we typically think of, but that they are working on an online game for kids. From what I can see here, they seem to be on the right track. The visuals are beautiful and the level of visual customization is perfect for a group that cares more about what their avatar looks like than whether he can critically strike in an arena tournament or hold the agro on Onyxia. Add a whole host of puzzle games, race cars, and pets
And you have an online game that looks perfect to snag that demograph of digipet hording, ds playing, socially engaged tweens who don’t have the income to shell out fifteen dollars a month or the wish to quibble over the RPG mechanics we’ve labeled as part of the mmo experience all these years.

While I am excited about Free Realms, I'd like to hear more about how they plan to monetize it. Will they implement family accounts, item malls, in-game/web facing advertising, guild wars style expansions, career "packs," or some combination of the above? How will they distribute the game on the console side? If you could get some followup Michael, even if it is "no comment," it would be appreciated.

The following information has been released in articles, interviews and videos... I can't provide specific sources, but I am sure you can find most of it by looking at recent videos on youtube and articles.

Free Realms will be free 2 play with a (optional) monthly subscription of 4,99 USD. Additionally, you'll be able to "buy stuff" for your character and pets (microtransactions... based on Station Cash, I'd guess...)

In-game advertising has also been mentioned. Not with simple banners, but with a 3d model and a cup of coffee floating over a coffee store (for Starbucks, as an example... I think this was in an article from IGN).

Why would anyone call this a "WoW-killer"? Honestly, it looks like it's for the 4-12 age group, and of course the ultra-casuals. That's nice if it's free, but clearly millions of people don't mind paying for other MMOs. As far as an MMO for kids, that's great, but we already have MapleStory and the like. I guess time will tell where this MMO will fit in the full spectrum.
