I always thought that Dinotopia would make a cool MMO. It'd need a "lore" change or two, but I always thought, creatively, it's pretty open, and would make a really cool game.

Casual Simpsons MMO.

You don't actually accomplish anything, you just run around the simpson universe chatting and what not.

Pokémon.
Actually, that might be a pretty decent mmorpg...

Vampire - The Masquerade.
Clans instead of races... Might also work...

World of Darkness (which includes Vampire: The Masquerade) has been quietly in development since 2006... it's the next MMO from CCP Games, the company behind Eve Online.

Gladiator in 2542 - A Futuristic MMO based all around Arena style combat, whether it be solo, group or raid. Clans can build cities and have their own stadiums. Players can bet, and get involved in games, for example: by throwing things into the arena which causes the combatants involved to take stuns, or stifles to hinder their combat.

Robotech - the Hasbro/Novel one, not the Japanese original three, an MMO with a timeline and a preknown conclusion?

On that note; Gundam... lore for miles

28 months later - amazes me there has not been a zombie MMO yet

C&C style RTS MMO - RTS becomes RPG becomes MMO, could we skip the RPG part? I think it would have to be combined with a Sim Cities sorta thing.

Rifts - One of my favorite paper&dice RPGs from back in high school http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifts (Shadowrun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun would be equally cool)

Tron

Terminator - in the future, after the fall

I totally forgot about this one yesterday but if Warcraft can make the transition from RTS to MMORPG why not the RTS with the richest back story I have ever seen:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_of_Legends

The Vinci are a highly technological, steampunk civilization, whose buildings and armed forces rely heavily on the steam engine, clockwork and gunpowder.
The Alin are a magical civilization, relying on Sand, Fire and Glass magic to create their infrastructure and army.
Though the larger bulk of Cuotl civilization is made up of subjugated indigenous humans, the race is headed by an alien civilization, inspired by the ancient Mayan civilization and the ancient astronaut theory from Chariots of the Gods? Unsolved Mysteries of the Past.

Steampunk, arabian nights, mayan aliens.... c'mon, ya know it would be awesome

Whenever the discussion of science fiction MMOs comes around in conversation, I raise my favorite two improbables: an MMO based on Phil Foglio's "Buck Godot" series, and an MMO based on the "Buzz Lightyear" cartoon series. I think they'd both make great MMOs, but they'd both require some pretty innovative design, both be really expensive, and both be very niche products.

a Sci Fi MMO where the players are not the heroes, but the people that live in that place (ok the action oriented people, but still).

essentially I would love to see a MMO were the player is part of a wider "ecosystem", not the hero, not the chosen, but a part of the society, that should be immersive enough.
