Well they handled it better then WoWs server balance. lol
They just said. Meh. Deal with it.
:P

But I doubt any MMO will ever have even balance just because unless you force players to do something, there's too many variables.

And by "free server transfers" they mean "server merges in everything but name" because the source servers die after it happens.

Hey, been browsing this site for a long time. Never actually posted. It was actually all the inside scoops on WAR posted here that got me to bookmark and I've been reading ever since.

I've been subscribed to WAR since launch, there have been a lot of statements from the devs that have been a little shady, but this is the first time I feel like we're being outright lied to.

As the old saying goes, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Look at the denominator here, it is the entire north American continent, not any single server. WAR has devolved into a small number of servers, most of which are heavily in favor of one side or the other. There are some that are balanced I'm sure, but to say that more than a few are remotely close is a flat out misrepresentation.

Mythic has done nothing to give people an incentive to play the underplayed side for months. There was a slight xp boost early on, but xp means nothing to those who are maxed out, which most people are reaching on their mains or have reached in the past at this point.

The lack of balance is a serious issue for WAR right now, one that if handled badly could doom the game. Seeing Mythic try to sell it like it's running just fine is really disheartening for someone who wanted to see this game succeed as much as I did.

Thanks for reading the rant.

You put it much more nicely than I would have! But yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I have characters on 4 servers (2 Order, 2 Destruction) and 3 of the 4 "feel" heavily Destro. While the number of characters may line up, the amount of time actually played by each side (in each tier for that matter) doesn't seem balanced. And there's no real incentive to make it that way. It's a PITA for guilds to up and move. Maybe in a few months when WAR drops a few servers (when/if) this will help. As for me, I let my account run out just this past Friday so I'm checking out other MMO options. Cheers!

I've been playing since launch as well, and I have a bit different perspective. From my experience on the two servers I play on, things are much more balanced than before. Some servers definitely seem like they favor one side or another on certain days or times, but overall, the balancing issue has gotten a lot better. Part of it is organization as well; Destruction, from my experiences, tends to be better organized, and therefore more effective in game. Every server, though, is a case by case basis.

A note on the transferable servers: I don't think they will be closing them down or merging any time soon, and I like their strategy. By not revealing them in the lists when a new player enters the game, it'll keep the populations higher in the servers already open. However, closing servers would create the impression that the game was shrinking, which may not be accurate.

Have numbers declined from 750,000 subscribers. Probably, but, once again from my personal experience, I don't think those numbers have declined lower than 500,000, which is, if we forget about WOW, a pretty amazing number of people playing. The numbers from waralytics.com are very telling, with over 1,000,000 guilded characters. Obviously some of these are repeats, but considering all of the people not in the reported (since they have to be guilded), is it unreasonable to assume a number somewhere above 500,000? I don't think so. Anyway, hope this game continues to succeed and sorry for the long post.

I like that quote..... its very true. Individual server balance is what matters NOT over all numbers. Even if it IS 49% to 51% in total, when there are 70%-30% servers everwhere with one side or the other getting zerged 24/7 you have a massive problem......

On Red Eye Mountain, there still seems to be a small Destro advantage in population. However, it's much better now than it has been in the past. Before it was glaringly obvious. Not it's merely noticeable on some nights.

I will add that the Destro players seem to be better organized than we are. It leads to some imbalance but I think it's planning rather than population causing it.

They can give out ANY kind of statistics they want. Go play the game for a couple nights and you'll soon see whats really going on.

Sure people with "active accounts" have CREATED both Order and Destruction characters. But they log into their Destruction characters 95% of the time.

Most players have an Order server and a Destro server they made characters on. Maybe they have created similar amounts of guys on both servers. But in actual gameplay Destro almost always will outnumber Order by a big margin.

With the hint that Dwarf Slayers might be coming soon this will be a good first step into fixing this. Give Order some cool/good looking classes. Most Order classes look totally ridiculous (knight of the blazing sun, bright wizard), homosexual (all high elves) or a race few want to play (dwarf). I'm hoping that because the dwarf slayer has a cool name and seems like a complete maniac on the battlefield it will draw some players to it. They just need about 10 more classes like him.

These comments inspired me to cancel my WAR account - the final brick that broke the camel's back if you will.

Its a dog & pony show. Mythic is using the population statistics in a manner that allows them to skew the data to look favorably. As some earlier commenters pointed out - the overall balance has zero meaning to any player on any given server.

The number of 'active accounts' is also another VAGUE term created by Mythic to further skew their data. I'd challenge them to release the data on all currently subscribed accounts, IMO that would be the true number that mattered. Many WAR players can tell you that Mythic uses the term 'active accounts' for the coveted guild experience as well - but over the past 6 months or so they still have yet to define exactly what an 'active account' is.

You're going to let wobs in an online forum inspire you to cancel? You were probably going to do that anyway. Cancel if you're not having fun.

If you read and understand the original post on the Herald you'll see how irrational many of the arguments are in online forums.

I'm having lots of fun in WAR. I'll probably play even if it whittles down to 2 core ruleset US servers, or until my guild drags me to SWTOR.

Takk, judging from your avatar, your playing a Zealot. I'm sure your having a super-swell time.

However, on my Ironbreaker and Witch Hunter, waiting 6+ hours for a scenario to pop, having to solo what parts of PQs that I can, and generally questing in a clunky vacuum of nothingness...this MMO seems sorely lacking in the second 'M'. And what few people I do run across, are bossy, obnoxious douchebags with no concept of class roles or teamwork. When I see a swordmaster calling a group of Engineers, Shadow Warriors, Arch Mages and Bright Wizards a bunch of 'p*ssies' for 'fighting at range'...yeah.

And these are on servers Mythic classifies as 'Medium' pop, no less.

When this months subscription runs out, it will not be renewed, and an EVE account will be activated instead. This will be my third WAR cancellation since game launch. At least people seem to actually, you know...*play* EVE. Third times a charm, I believe. Mythic can put out more of their spastic blame-game video clips and feed you guys crap on a Styrofoam plate and call it steak. I've had my fill, and this buffet is done.

Destro players "see, we told ya - we're just better organized and skilled then Order".

Order players "lies, lies and more lies".

But I agree - Destro is the more attractive faction; we have cooler looking zones, better classes, sexy female avatars and are just feel more well rounded.

I just think Mythic is tired of hearing about the pop imbalances and since it would take, in their opinion, a herculean effort to address they're fudging the numbers.

Reasons to play Destro:
1) I wanna hang with disk surfers and their pink "scary" demons.

2) Your so far away from home :( Oh wait...

3) Chosen cannot be killed by mere mortals.

4) The scars are cooler over here.

4.5) Fantasy is all about cool monsters and hot chicks so why not play one or two.

The reasons to play Order:
1) Spanish Conquistadors in disguise as Knights of the Blazing Sun. Need I say more?

2) When the underdog wins its sweeter than when the bully who always wins, wins, wins y'know.

3) Dwarves make excellent pillows while traveling long distances.

4) High Elves like cats... I like cats... therefore I...

4.5) Bright Wizards are the coolest class in the game period (someone melted the period key on my keyboard, dang)

It's amazing that despite these numbers lining up almost exactly with the figures on the non-Mythic aligned waralytics.com people still cry foul. Go have a look for yourselves.

http://www.waralytics.com/warservers/view/0

I know this is the internet but seriously, compare the perception of someone whining about it "being a slap in the face" or "a brick on the camels back?" vs. gathered data and tell me which one you believe.

The population is PEBKAC. I play Order on a "Destro Dominated" server (Darklands) and both sides can make big pushes depending on who gets off thier butt and orgainses.
