The team at Guild Wars has just released their newest developer update, which explains ArenaNet's plans with the game throughout 2009. This was something that was alluded to in community manager Regina Buenaobra's wiki journal last week, and speculated upon in the major Guild Wars forums. Now the word is out, and it seems promising for the majority of Guild Wars fans.
First off, the team plans to restructure their content updates and be more open about what they're working on. Their Live Team is expanding and their new goal is to release new content in "fewer yet more substantial updates". So what can we expect in the coming months? In April, a few new features will be implemented for players, including increases to account-based storage, improvements to character-based storage and account-based changes to the Hall of Monuments.

Either love or hate WoW, but this announcement seems to foreshadow exactly what Blizzard is doing currently. They have a more back and forth between a couple designers and the community, for better transparency and they have always been working to make their patches encompass more and more so they don't make it a "once a month" type of thing.

Just because WoW does it doesn't make it bad. I'm glad that A-net is big enough to avoid the trap that lots of games fall into: being COMPLETELY different from their competitors.

Hopefully marketing GW2 is part of their plans for 2009... It's really strange how quiet they have been about it since the initial announcement.

For those who can read between the lines:
No GW2 in 2009...
Apparently they ran into some trouble and want to promote GW1 in the meantime to keep the cash flowing.
The problem is: GW is stuck with an old control system. Clicking in front of your character instead of direct controls is a no go anno 2010.
The controls used in GW are old hat and no longer apply to a modern full 3D game.
So they have to change this, which is not easy if you grew up with these kind of controls.
I also think they are now in the "post WotLK" depression. The same thing is like when War's Mark Jacobs told to the press they had to redo a lot after seeing TBC.
Problem is WotLK - lore and world design wise - took again a leap forward and that's not a good motivator to still find a beter designed 3D world.
Imagine flying a mount and clicking in the "sky". :)))

GW -has- direct controls, and has the option of clicking to move, which is infinitely preferable over longer distances.
