After an initial release date announced last month as January 22nd, the Darkfall Online team has clarified their plans a bit and re-assigned a new launch date of February 25th, 2009. Of course the date of January 22nd won't be completely trashed, as they plan to begin a trial on that date, allowing thousands of people to stress test the servers and test the game's features before launch.
A pre-order will be made available in mid February which will give those players priority for early access to the game, including the possibility of a staged launch, due to the overwhelming interest in the game so far. They plan to release more information on this pre-order, North American player access and system specs very soon. Stay tuned!
[Thanks Jacob!]

sure... for real this time... no really. they promise.
I wonder if during this "month before release" we'll get the streaming, unrelenting, pleathera of official info and PR from them that we got in this last "month before release".
I'll just wait until I start seeing solid coverage, and then I'll take a release date serious.

Ya thats why I totally lost my underdog FTW stance on these guys. I can only go so far with my desire to see the little guy win big when the little guy refuses to even post some information about the game hes supposed to be releasing.
To use a tired old saying Darkfall fanboys have not so much counted their chickens before they hatched as taken a chichen who has never layed anything, listened as she makes a whole lot of noise like shes laying a huge number of eggs. Then without checking to see if the eggs even exist they have counted them, named the chicks, sent in advance entrys for the chicks at the AG fair and started an online bidding war for the hen's breeding rights.

No surprises there. Its been delayed again, I predict it will be delayed further after ten minuets of stress testing when the server hits critical mass and breaks down.
Reading the forum post between the lines I'm seeing the following statment, "We arn't ready, our partners arn't ready, the game isn't finished, we don't have servers to support the number of people who want to play, JUST GIVE US MORE TIME AND EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT"
"Hype surrounding Darkfall is huge right now, despite our best efforts."
Earth to dorkstick, you have given your rabid pvp driven immature fanboys a wackload of promises "Biggest game world ever made!" "Player build cities!" and loads more then just let them run with it.
Now if you excuse me I have some fanboy meltdowns to watch.

LOL at the fanboys at the forums. Before this they were attacking people telling them to die in a fire and get the f out when someone would dare say the game is likely to get delayed and giving reasons why it is not possible that it won't come out on the 22nd. Now they are giving excuses of why the delay is a good thing and being the little apologists they are. Someone just posted how this is a brilliant marketing strategy They are even buying into this 'limited trial' bull. It's a beta no matter how you try to hide it.

Thats the second best part! Yesterday I saw a poor innocent noob asking a few questions one of which was "is it true this game might be delayed?"
The poor guy got verbally blowtorched with refences that make drunken Marines look like budda, for that question.
Now we got a bunch of them gong insane and the other half making apologist statments about how wonderful this is that its not coming out for a month.

I almost appreciate moreso now Duke Nukem Forever's mantra/release date of "When its done". Also why Apple doesn't actually talk about products until they are all but in the stores. Vaporware hype and missing release dates just makes these companies look bad.
I have hope for this game, but I feel that their testing strategy might fail... horridly. The team (from what I hear) doesn't have the experience in actually launching of an MMO and the crushing to the servers. Even Blizzard screws this up and and they fairly experienced with it. Call me a month after the game is out.

Quick update Darkfall forums are devided into two war groups. The one operating under “They are doing it for the sake of the game, they’ll never let us down, we love them, we‘d sell our souls for Darkfall,” (Not a direct quote but pretty damn close) vs the homicidal raving loons having bitch fits all over the place because the game isn‘t coming out when promised just like the other ten or so times it hasn‘t.
I can decide which I love more, its so awesome to watch I might go back to supporting the Devs! Anyone who can set up THAT kind of flaming hilarity are MY KIND OF PEOPLE! This game is giving me loads of entertainment BEFORE ITS EVEN RELEASED!

Yes because the wow forums are even better! God your awful judging a game on the comments on forums? Most people just lurk so judging a game by the comments on the forum has to be the worst idea that I've ever heard. The fact you keep reporting back the "info" makes me think that your some poor little noob that asked questions without archiving and got trolled on their forums :P

I'm looking forward to the game so I'll wait patiently until it's released. There are other games to play until it arrives. From what I've read, it looks very promising.
It seems kinda foolish to get as emotionally tied up in a video game as you all are describing. It smacks strongly of the need to get a real life outside of your video games. People define themselves a little too much by the toons they play.

I really hope that this game will please all the hardcore whiners and complainers out there. So they go and leave the rest of us allone. I think some other games are being talked down by the hardcore whiners = bad publicity.
Anyway, we will see what happens. I really wish these guys luck, I once tried something simillar (garage game) and I know how hard it is. So if they can really make it, more power to them...

well say this they are very good at marketing it at least to get people that hype uped about a game that may or may not come out.
im going to wait to play the whole hey you can pvp anything kind of has me worried. i wonder what the timer is on the making stuff and building city's.
if it takes to long todo and the pvp gets you that would not be much fun for me trying to build a city and having city campers killing the city faster than you can build it.

Honestly, I wasn't surprised. I mean I hope the Darkfall fans do get their game and enjoy it, but I hope this isn't Duke Nukem Forever: the MMO.

If it was a local release 10k players would be a good assumption, even a brave one, but going for an international release and planning for only 10k players is borderline..... ok lets say not well planned.
they should have made preparations for at least 100k players.

I have to LOL at this. As much as I wish darkfall to suceed, im getting deja vu of when Age of conan was delayed and promised the stars pre launch. Fool me once, but shall not be fooled twice. Im waiting atleast 3 months after release, and not wasting my money on any pre orders, potentially since this game has vaporwear written all over it. I do not pity all the fools that will get burnt if it tanks post launch.
