when the patent 'design' was introduced it served as a save-guard against others trying to steal, leech or usurp your idea's or products. on the other hand, companies and individuals imediatly ripped apart the system and used it for their own gain.
sadly, there is STILL no alternative system allows for inventors and creators to work/live of their work in peace, and still allows others to advance beyond the limits of patants.
so yes - the current patent system sucks and need a BIG BAD overhaul - but then again, what part of our legal system (Worldwide) doens't need that to acomodate the internet?
