While I know a lot of people don't value Charisma, this doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile. Mission runners especially need to train the skills that depend on it to further their rewards in missions and their standings with the corporation issuing the missions.

The main issue with charisma is that the number of skills that use it is very limited. Social skills for mission-runners and leadership skills for gang bonuses use it but very little else even has it as a secondary attribute. If it's a choice between putting points in charisma or putting them in something else, the something else usually wins.

For example, Perception and willpower are used all ship, missile and gunnery skills (where most people's skillpoints are concentrated). Intelligence and memory are used heavily for science, industrial, engineering, electronics, learning and drone skills.

Charisma is not that important. I have all the trade and social skills that I feel are of any use to my character all at 4, and they took less than 2 weeks to get. About 700K SP in each area.

I will eventually be getting some leadership skills as well, but even there it doesn't look like they'll take too terribly long.

As a result, I can say from my own experience that CHA isn't a big deal -- though I will grant you that I have a +4 implant and have done the learning skills for CHA to 4/3, in order to make it so that when I *do* need CHA that it doesn't take forever either.

I'd disagree that the Tristan is such a good choice for new Gallente pilots, favouring the Incursus. While the Tristan is a sturdier ship with higher damage it requires new players to train Missile Launchers.

While some Gallente pilots may use missile launchers more frequently later in the game the liklihood is that new players will go on to use a Vexor or Thorax before moving up to a Brutix or Myrmidon and then a Dominix, Megathron or Hyperion. Only one of those ships has a missile slots, the Megathron, and it only has 2. Even then they are rarely (if ever) used in most pilot's ship setups. The majority of these ships concentrate on Hybrid Turrets or massive Drone capacity.

I spent a lot of time raising missile skill when I first started playing EVE. Now (a few years on) I still have only a few thousand skill points in Missiles as opposed to millions in Gunnery and Drones.

My advice to new players would be to stick to the Incursus and use the training time they would have spent on missiles on something of lasting use to a Gallente pilot - Gunnery, Drones or Armour tanking.

I would agree with this but training "standard missiles" to level 2 or 3 takes only a few hours and nothing beyond that is really required. I do agree that gallente pilots should not train heavily in missile skills but I don't think that's a big deal when you're just starting out.
