The Daily Grind: 'Tis the season

It's that time of year again -- when every MMO on the market decides to break out in some form of winter-y celebration. Festivities abound! AoC is handing out gifts, EVE offers snowball fights, Nexon holds festivals, Warhammer celebrates Keg End, Lineage II lets you save Santa, the World of Warcraft celebrates Winter Veil, Guild Wars players celebrate Wintersday, City of Heroes and Villains hold their uncreatively named Winter Event, LotRO hosts the Yule Festival, EverQuest II celebrates Frostfell, Final Fantasy XI hosts the Starfall Celebration, and probably a number of other events in a number of other games that have slipped our immediate notice.

Whew! If you haven't been overwhelmed by the sheer amount of holiday cheer provided by that simple list of events, then here's the question(s) from Massively HQ to you. Are you celebrating this holiday season MMO style? Seeking out every seasonal quest and seeing how many MMOs have virtual eggnog to indulge in? Would you prefer not to have real world holidays barging into your virtual reality? Or does celebrating in real life provide you with more than enough holiday cheer for one lifetime?

I have been diving into MMO festivities - WAR & Guild Wars - but I'm reaching grumpy burnout point.

Both games have introduced desirable little trinkets I want - Battle Brew Backpack & miniature polar bear respectively - but then gone and squirrelled them away behind absurd 0.001% probability grinds.

Pretty much like last year then :

> Waiting eagerly for the Christmas builds to come up.
> Tearing through seasonal content with hope & zeal.
> Trudging through seasonal content optimistically.
> Crawling through season content despairingly.
> Forsaking seasonal content grumpily.

It's just such a... MMO thing to do. *sigh*

I definately avoid to pick it up as a grindy challenge.
When i meet a seasonal mob or group of seasonal mobs on the way while doing other things i kill them, if they drop what i need good, otherwise, no problem. I don't actively seek them.
In WAR there's time until january the 5th, so I'm pretty sure even taking it casually most people will manage to get what they need.
I can tell you, it's much more relaxing this way.

I actually went into Ostland/Troll Country to search for the mobs to complete my kills and get a few kegs as well. While there killing the mobs quest-style for the ToK unlock...one of them dropped the Battle Brew Backpack! I was like "Holy shit!".

..but, then I realised it's nothing like the one on the Rank 40 I seen in the Inevitable City a day ago, and that's because it was only a Rank 15 item....guess there's multiple versions based on the rank of the mob that you kill that drops it. Either way, I love how the item is BOE, so if I can get another of my rank before the event ends I'll be able to sell this one for uber gold (yes, I said UBER).

Either way, I love this event because it also takes the RvR from the keeps and BFOs and takes them to the open fields where the Ogres are....it's so fun being part of two armies attacking each other while a huge Ogre is in the middle taking a large amount of the crossfire.
