The recently held Global Online Games Awards in Seoul, South Korea, just handed out awards to World of Warcraft, City of Heroes, and EVE Online for excellence in their respective genres. World of Warcraft took the top spot in the roleplaying game category, City of Heroes took the award home for the adventure/action game, and EVE Online found an award in the strategic simulation category.
The judges were formed from an international panel of game experts, including Simon Carless from Gamasutra and Game Developer magazine. Each game was rated on scenario/planning (content), graphics, music and sound, included technology, and creativity. Other winning titles included Counter-Strike Source in the first-person shooter category, FIFA '09 in the sports category, and Nexon's KartRider for best racing/casual game.
Gamasutra has the whole write-up, so head on over there if you want to check out the full article.

I like how "Massive Subscriber Base" equals "Must Be The Best"
There are far more games out there that do better at Roleplaying than World of Warcraft. RP on their servers is just" Hey, this server here is for Roleplaying...that is all!"

So true, so true. I mean, they're "roleplaying" as being on one of two factions that supposedly hate each other, yet currently share the same capital cities in not one but two seperate continents. Shattarath and Dolaran. Nope, it's complete and utter bollocks. I think LotRO would be better for the lore, RPing than any other game (only then after that it would have to be WAR because it's RPing is about smashin' stunties!).

It is the companies place to provide proper support for a RP community, if the community has an environment in place.
There are tons of people that do RP on the RP servers Blizzard has, yet the refuse to provide adequate support or tools to help the true RP's in their game.
In that state, there are better games out there that do provide a richer RP environment, and at a far better pace than Blizzard does.

I think it's more about "millions of copies sold" and less about "actual role playing envior".
Their "list" went out the window for me when CoH got best Action game. Really? Best over everything else out there? Console included? lol. Pathedic attempt at hidding the paid-for marketing.

Awards are scams anyway, just a way for someone to make a buck.
