LOL.... Failcom.....

Are they serious? Everything they have done has been a disaster... is this going to be added on to the huge list already accumulated?

Long-time lurker here...

Sheesh, you two are such parodies of 'embittered and scorned gamers' but I've begun to seriously wonder if you two are actually working for Funcom. :-) In reposting the same formulaic and over-the-top trolling comments ad nauseam in absolutely every discussion concerning Funcom and Age of Conan - regardless of how inconsequential the news might be and how irrelevent the comments are to the discussion - what I suspect you're trying to do is discredit and neuter any legitimate discussion of the negative aspects of the company and the game.

Well it's working. As you guys look more and more ridiculous with every post (you'd think Funcom burnt their house down, raped their dog and gave them herpies judging by the undiminished nerd-rage) the game looks more and more appealling. I've not played Age of Conan yet but I've casually followed it's progress. All this ridiculous rage not only provides massive entertainment for mne at your expense but now has me seriously considering a trip to my local gamestore and a purchase of Age of Conan.

Nice work. Seriously, if you're not in the pay of Funcom then you really should be. The tactic is brilliant!

Dear Monkey

I think I liked you better when you were a lurker, but I was thrilled to see our comments go you posting at last, welcome!... glad you enjoy the 'massive entertainment', you should see what I say about Warhammer that will blow your socks off!

If you went out and bought AoC, I think that would give a great deal of entertainment at your expense to pretty much everyone but you, please don't say you were not warned.

Please continue legitimate AoC discussion ONLY below please, enough silliness as we all know that AoC is very serious business massively hardcore PVP free for all mature bloodbath

You reply to such people, you feed. Don't feed, just vote down. Otherwise it's obvious, they know it.

As to the article. I think they are doing it right in taking their time. December is a bad time to do anything due to the holidays and a short staff.

Something screwy happened with that post. Massively?

Yeah I've seen your Warhammer posts. You're pretty funny there at times with those too, but really, it seems you're heart's not quite in it, unlike your AoC/Funcom posts, where you've absolutely perfected the appearance of rampant nerd-rage..

I guess Mythic isn't coughing up...

I say Ago of Conan at Target this weekend for 10 bucks. I can honestly say I almost picked it up because I have spent more than 10 on crappy games.

I agree. It's only £9.99 on Play.com here. I might just order it and if the game is as shockingly terrible as the naysayers claim then no harm done. In any case, it seems most people at least regard the 1-20 experience to be a solid experience and I'm sure that alone is worth the new sticker price.

If not then I'll move on. Life's too short to get an aneurysm over a game.

I suspect most people who are flaming AoC have not played the game in months. AoC has come a long long way since launch. Stable, beautiful, new content. I have to laugh when people chastise Funcom for doing the right thing and taking a little more time to make sure something is done right. Ironically, those same people burned funcom at the stake for releasing AoC too early. Funcom can't win. AoC is a good MMO. Maybe not great. But AoC is a good alternative to other MMOs on the market.

Because Funcom has lost our trust. Doesnt matter if the game is awesome now or not. They played us around before the launch promising alot and delivered nothing in the end.

I'd hate to think how some people here would react if they were to experience a real crisis in their lives given the near melt-down they're seem to be having because a game didn't live up to expectations.

I have plenty of games collecting dust on the shelf or I've simply thrown away because they disappointed me and didn't live up to expectations or marketing hype for me. Uninstalled, perhaps told friends that what I thought of the game, moved on. I certainly didn't let myself get worked up about it. The moment I do, over what is merely a computer game is the moment this pass-time has ceased to be just that.

Perhaps some people just like the attention? Perhaps their lives are so meaningless and vacant that they feel the need to turn something like this into a crusade (plenty of other more worthy issues to be worked up about in this world)? I don't know, people are strange.

I think a poster above gave you some tips to avoid trolling, nonetheless a response! That's where I step in.

If you could just calm down a bit, I think the general impression (but not the only one to acknowledge the fans) is that the game is lacking and there are better alternatives out there. If I'm way off the mark then feel free to correct me.

A lot of the comments at Massively are somewhat tongue in cheek, so I'm surprised you feel the need for some sort of social commentary. I chuckle when I write mine, I hope some people find it amusing too, if not their loss.

People got burned big time by Conan, and FunCom were completely unresponsive on their forums, just didn't care, players were shut out. Similar thing to the SWG NGE.

So what do people do? Yep, they give it a slating so others don't make the same mistake. Rather than 'hating on a game' they are just giving a frank review and trying to make sure other consumers don't get sucked in the same way they feel that they have, which when balanced to some of the marketing claims offered by the companies to get you to buy the game in the first place, offer two extremes. It's no different from you telling your friends, just on the internet.

Should we give these companies a second chance? Sure, but on your terms, it's your $15 so you decide how to spend it and given you have a general impression of the game, you need to see pretty substantial improvement.

For what it's worth, poster to poster, you'll probably like the start of the game, some of it is fun, but on the whole it feels like playing a French video game from the late 80's, it looks good, but you just can't figure out the reason to play it. Later on you'll probably think, is that it and you'll wonder why some of the design decisions have been made. You'll probably think the game world is devoid of players (thus the server merges) and also that the quests a are horribly straightforward.

When people play MMO's they are looking for a longer term commitment to gaming than a console game, but the thing is you just don't see problems until later on, and after that you get the feeling you wasted a lot of time.

If the comments here make you think twice about that, then that's good, because as you can see there are definitely issues with this game. If you feel you want to try it, go for it, you've heard what the issues are, I wish you luck.

Through the murky filter of the internet, the best intentioned posts can come through as very straightforward. If you read each with that in mind, it doesn't come across as quite so severe.

People at Massively are fans of MMO games. It's not a crusade or vendetta against 'this one game!', it's an appreciation of the genre as a whole. After all this is the place where you post your thoughts about MMO's right? and this thread is devoted to the persistent issues FunCom are having to provide a half decent well populated game?

So far from 'getting worked up' about the game, it's just a place where you can give your opinion. Rightly or wrongly both positive and negative opinions are permitted. I've never understood people who claim you you can post positive things about a game and if you don't like something, you are wasting you time, you need to move on, get laid or a life or something like that.

Remember the point above, it's a MMO site, so people are going to offer opinions wherever they can. It's much better to have people posting here, than to ignore these stories because they have a negative opinion. I'd hate to read just positive comments, walk out buy a game and then try it at home to realize I'd been duped by some clever marketing assets and a very distorted perspective.

The guys at Massively appreciate both sides of the story, and I'm sure a lot of people lurk here and don't post (which is a shame) are the same.

I felt the need to post in response because some people say you just have to smell the roses when commenting, I'd like to point out that, in this case, these roses are planted in a substantial quantity of horse shit.

Sorry, didn't bother reading.

I got to 'if you could calm down a bit...' - Pot meet Mr Kettle. Seriously, that's some funny sh@t even by your standards.

Keep it up Mr Angry - while Mr Happy, Mr Tickle and Mr Rush were my favourite Mr Men when i was a kid, you'll certainly do in a pinch. Just a tip, keep it brief - it makes you sounds less 'obssessive'.

Ok, decided to read this - curiosity got the better of me. Again thanks for the laugh. Evidently I touched a raw nerve for you to address me with such a long post.

Right. The 'LOL@Failcom'-type posts ad-neaseum contribute exactly zilch to any discussion. As I stated quite categorically in my first post, these kind of posts on every thread concerning the game and the company, and the hounding down of anyone who might actually posit a contrary view through sneering remarks is diluting any legitimate critical discussion of the game, and may actually be counter-productive to the poster's intention. Personally, I've begun to find them so disproportionate to the perceived offense, so irrelevant to the disuccsion, so abjectly banal (though the poster may find their post pithy and witty as you seem to do.) and so absolutely ridiculous that I'm beginning to actually root for Funcom. And I wouldn't be surprised if wasn't the only one.

Take that feedback on this approach to 'commenting' for what it's worth...

Mr Angry - "I've never understood people who claim you you can post positive things about a game and if you don't like something, you are wasting you time, you need to move on, get laid or a life or something like that."

Helluva strawman there. I didn't say this at all as I've just demonstrated. I'm merely commenting on the ceaseless, repetitive, worthless, and counterproductive troll-posts that reflect more upon the posters than upon the game. Any legitimate discussion gets lost amidst the noise.

The rest of the post I commend you for. A reasoned decontruction of what you preceive to be the problems with the game. Bravo! And actually funnier than your usual fair.
