Might be hesitant? I've seen nothing but "putting on the brakes" from gamers. On forums at least.

I'm in that boat. I wouldn't buy another NCSoft title, no matter what, until the game has been out for at least 2 years, and it's striving.

Even then, I won't be an easy sell.

This has ZERO to do with shutting a game down to me. It's how it was handled. They pumped sunshine and lollipops for over a year now, and then slashed the game down, w/ little imput or info to the community.

Yes, it's a business, but they were completely decietful in how they went about touting "100% support" and "the game isn't going anywhere!". That's rubbish.

They gave their players false hopes, and basically said "We're going to milk this til it's dry and then... eff 'em".

Well, in the long run, they've eff'd themselves, b/c myself, my wife, and my brother in law have all discussed how we don't and can't trust NCsoft releases, regardless of how much "spin" they put out there.

I know I'm not touching Aion when it first comes out.

And I know I'm going to be in the extreme minority when I say this, but I rather liked AC2.

I'm still surprised they don't open up the server options to be run privately. Currently you can't play Phantasy Star Online on any official servers (the last of them closed this year), but there are plenty of community-run, free (as in beer) servers that allow people to still play online with eachother and enjoy the world. Or heck, run their own instance of the world.

I had always wanted to run a private EverQuest server, and I certainly think it's a classy way to put a MMO into retirement.

The free PSO servers were reverse engineered. Sega sure as hell did not hand out any server software. Luckily, PSO (except for Blue Burst) allowed you to play the same character online and off. Too bad they abandoned this in Phantasy Star Universe.

I wouldn't touch a new MMO from them, either. Two games pulled after a year. Tabula Rasa could and should have been online for ages.

They had a very dedicated population. Not huge, but not tiny either.

They have made a huge error here as far as PR goes and the future of any new games, in my opinion.

The one thing that I fear in my MMO is that square will end it in the next couple of years. I have met a lot of people and I know a lot of them have switched to MMO's that don't take up much time like WoW. I hope this never happens.

I like AC2 as well, but I LOVED AC1. I want AC3 with AC1 inspired gameplay :[

I'm done with anything NCSoft probably forever personally. I find this a complete insult to their player base. They tell us storys like theres no tomorrow about how its there forever then then pull the plug BAM.

As MANY people have pointed out as long as the subcriptions are covering the cost of keeping the server(s) online it REALLY dose not cost much to keep an mmo running once it is made. The big costs are in making the thing and NCSoft has already spent that money.
Can't say anything about Auto Assualt but having played Tabula Rasa on a friends account I found it to be a decent if not incredible game.

Then they want US to trust them on another mmo? With the full knowledge that when previous mmos wern't proforming to their standerds they just just tossed them in the trash bin after promising not to for months?
Freeing up resources is one thing but dumping a game after assuring fans that its there to stay means I will NEVER play one of their games unless:
A: The game truely is Gods gift to the mmo community, spectacular accomplishment recieving worldwide acclaim.
B. There are some SERIOUS changes of management at NCSoft
C. They are PAYING me to play it.

The problem at least for me is that a lot of publishing companies that specialize in MMOs don't have a method for keeping their older games afloat. Turbine and NCSoft would definitely benefit if there was a subscription method that gave access to all their games.

I personally don't think Aion is going to catch on big for several different reasons including how they've handled Tabula Rasa. However, I think Guild Wars 2 will be a big success for them and might help them recover some of their standing with MMO players.

The statement that EA renamed The Sims Online to EALand to disassociate themselves from The Sims doesn't make any sense simply due to the reason that a group of developers was actually dedicated into changing this platform around. They made a bunch of updates to The Sims Online including some custom content, merging of all cities into one huge world, efforts to fix the economy (which actually made things worse instead of better), introduction to widgets, launching of currency vendors, and so on. The goal was clear: to make EALand simular to Second Life where everything thrives around custom content. Why did EA close this project down? EA gave this group of devs one year to turn the platform around and they basically failed in this objective.
