For those players left to enjoy Tabula Rasa in its final months, NCsoft has remained diligent about keeping up with quality content. The most recent game update, Deployment 15, has now hit the Public Test Server and brings with it many features that players have been looking forward to for a while now.
In addition to the new FPS camera view, we're treated to a new instance map entitled "The Empire Sector". This special map is restricted to level 50 players who must also meet certain Logos requirements. Plus, NCsoft's developers aren't letting the closure blues get to them as they break out with some holiday decorations throughout 16 different locations where holiday headgear and "Festive Footwear" await players. Check out the complete PTS patch notes for more information on this large update.

Why would they waste their time releasing this stuff when they are shutting down soon? :-\

Because the content was likely already developed and ready for beta testing; it sucks that it's going to get trashed soon, but it's better than not deploying it at all - at least it can serve a purpose, even if it's for a limited amount of time.
Which begs this other question, I haven't been following TR for a good while, have they said if the game will be available for legal private servers yet? So it can live on in some limited capacity?

In their defense, they've probably been working on this latest content for weeks/months and it wouldn't make much sense to the existing players to just "drop it and run away". If it was finished or close to finished, then why not release it?
Just because "the end" is coming, doesn't mean one commits suicide to create an alternate ending.

Why would they blow the servers up in the face of their playerbase? They can still create another MMO, and it'd be nice to have the existing base's support for it.

Isn't this the patch they said was going to "save the game"?
Looks like they wasted their time, NC Korea never had any intention of letting this game keep running apparently.

Corrected for you.
And yes, with how much work they put in and nearly completed for D15, it would have made less sense to not finish it and release it as one last "thank you" to the players who had also been slapped in the face by NCsoft's announcement.
