Sorry to pick nits, but they play a generic fantasy MMO, for obvious copyright reasons.

World of Warcraft was not the first fantasy MMO, nor is it the only fantasy MMO. So, while I'm sure many people that play WoW find the show funny because they can see parallels to their own gaming experiences in The Guild, I can assure you that the sorts of weirdness documented in The Guild is hardly exclusive to WoW.

Agreed...I would recommend changing the article to "a fictional story about the lives of a group of MMO players...."

The humor of The Guild stems from the interdynamics of a group of people not from the game the people are playing; hence, the reason The Guild has always kept their MMO of choice shrouded in obscurity...

I'm quite sad that it's going to be released on Xbox 360 FOUR WEEKS EARLIER! There is no mmo's on the bloody 360.

Great to hear of success like this. I hope this inspires more independent storytellers/filmmakers.

It's nice that they got sponsored but, yeah, there's no MMOs on the 360, and no decent ones on the horizon. The show was inspired by PC games, is centered around a PC game, and only got an audience because of YouTube. Still love 'em to death, but it's a shame they went this route.

I'm a little bemused - yeah, it's silly that a console with no MMOs is getting them first, but Microsoft seems to have given her a really fair deal, from the sound of it. No real movie or TV company would have been even half as kind. The creators keep their rights to the property and still get to do whatever the hell they want with the series, they just have to put it on Xbox first and shoot in HD. It's really awesome to see something as awesome and independent as The Guild get this kind of recognition and respect.

And, OK - I'm psyched about the chance to see The Guild on my actual TV without waiting for the season to come out on DVD. That may be the best part of this, for me.
