Warhammer probably would've done better with a late release regardless of any impending WoW expansion. It's pretty much an open secret that EA rushed it's release.

WAR's problem's are it's own. WoW's subscription #'s are a mystery. It's a well polished game with a winning formula. New MMO's have to stop pretending consumers are going to let them release unfinished products along side WoW and let them fix it later.

Exactly. The era of Everquest's 'release now, patch later' style is dead and may it stay that way forever.

It's nice to take the high ground and claim that devs should only release mmos when they are as polished as WoW and without any bugs, but in the real world nobody can afford to.
How much more would it have cost EA to extend the release date another 3 months for WAR? I hate to say it but if you *still* cant handle the odd bug in an MMO launch, you should proably stick to WoW with the other care bears..

Funshine and Tenderheart are LF8M for recycled Naxx content.

LOL. Spoken like a true troll. Maybe game companies "can't afford" to release a quality product because people keep buying their unfinished garbage regardless of the state of it so they have no incentive to release a good product. Yet they wonder why half their subscribers bail after the first 30 days.

Meanwhile all the gamers that are "too good" for WoW are trying to maintain their anti-WoW "high ground" as if playing one game with little 3D elves makes you better than someone playing another game with little 3D elves. Give me a break.

The cost of delaying Warhammer's release would've been inconsequential compared the cost of releasing a a flawed and incomplete game. There are *NO SECOND CHANCES* in the MMO industry. Once your game stumbles, it legacy is tainted forever. Take a look at Tabula Rasa if you don't believe me.

As for your 'carebear' comments...well...whatever, if you like eating shit I won't stand in your way, shiteater.

World of Warcraft allow new users to settle in every day from level 1. Next to the impending WoW expansion they release free content paths at a rate of 5 till 8 a year. In this content patch's is more content them 2 Elfquest 2 expansions.

Wrath of the Lich King was one of the best expansion release for any MMO ever. Blizzard make it look like it was part of the world always and not some have baked addon you see in other games. Great pve expansion and there added both to pvp and pve mount combat it may not be there all the time on your basic mount but its added and works great.

You can better talk more about the slow development cycle and rush jobs of other mmo's. Games like Warhammer, LOTR, AOC that still not are 100% stable and have bugs and still not are patch out. And where the hell are the other city's of Warhammer??

I feel that WAR's timing with WotLK will not hurt it in the long-run that much. It *had* to come out before Christmas 2008, or wait another year, and *should* come out before WotLK -- which it did on both counts.

Some people picked up WAR because they were bored of WoW and thought it might be a good substitute for the PvE experience. Unfortunately for them, WAR's PvE experience is decent but not as rich as WoW. Once they learned that they would have cancelled WAR after a month or two anyway and, most likely, gone back to WoW and purchased WotLK.

The people that picked up WAR for the RvR (or PvP) experience, on the other hand, will probably stay -- even if they came from WoW. They might renew their WoW accounts and check-out WotLK but, if RvR/PvP was what they were *really* looking for, I bet they will leave WoW again and return to WAR.

I feel the timing of WAR and WotLK were good by both companies and neither truly cannibalized each others numbers because they appeal to different audiences.

I agree with DeathMutant. I think WAR's audience were the folks that were tired of WoW, and the people that had quit WoW a long time ago. I have a number of guildmates that left WoW for a short time to play WAR, but came right back when the expansion hit.

There's such a big market for MMOs now, and this, if anything, is what WoW has proven. Taking subs away from WoW is a very difficult task indeed, but tapping into the market is easier than ever. MMOs like WAR and COH/EVE/LotRO are madly successful until you compare them to WoW.

Let's just stop comparing, and come to the realization that WoW is going to be around a very long time, and dominate for quite awhile yet. We'll know that "WoW Killer" when Blizzard announces their next-gen MMO. Simple as that.

I think Warhammer should manage to hold together a subscription base in the 200k range. I did wish they held off on releasing until after Wrath of the Lich King, but who knows maybe Blizzard would have just delayed longer.

This quarter has been so jam packed with releases like the Shadow Odyssey, Mines of Moria, Wizard101 and Warhammer. It almost seems a waste since Wrath of the Lich King is overshadowing a lot of them. It's a shame that game companies are under pressure to release in time for the holidays.
