I really like something simplified and clean. Good color separations matter, too. That's part of what turned me off of Quake. It was all brown.
As far as style, more people could stand to learn from Bruce Timm and his contemplations on art versus nature, and why Alex Toth's art isn't as simple as it seems.

Although I hated it at first, I love WoW's cartoony look. It scales well and has the color most modern games lack.

I had to think about this one. I'd say Lord of the Rings Online--you get some truly, truly epic views.

I was going to say EQ2, but I have to agree with Chad LOTRO. The Ambiance of that game kinda pulls you right in to your suroundings.

conan art, of course. it crushed me that the game fell apart. ...crushed me like conan crushes his enemies and listens to the lamentations of the women.

I don't know that I have a "preferred" art style, per se. I guess my preferred style is one that matches the title. Dungeon Runners' graphics get a lot of grief on the interwebz, but the low-tech, cartoony style is perfect for that particular game.

LOTRO art is amazing!! The first time you see the Northern lights on the ice bay of Forochel or a snowstorm in the Misty Mountains takes your breath away. And even simply a stroll through the Shire can be very relaxing.

The art in Guild Wars is beautiful even at low settings and doesn't make your system run sluggish even on the highest settings. The characters are attractive and the scenery is gorgeous. Don't know what more you can ask for.

Ooh! Secret swag! I really like the art style from AoC. It's a shame the game didn't succeed, though.

WoW has the best art style, but LoTRO is a close second.

Strong lines and a clear style. That can range from EQ2 graphics to Kingdom of Loathing line drawings. The key thing, for me, is that it doesn't look blocky and that I can recognise what game it is from a distance. I liked AoC graphics although I'd rank LOTRO above 'em.

Although old I really enjoyed shadowbane's darkish art style, loved it when i played it, the characters weren't to bulky, just the right to me!
