Above is the sole bit of evidence that the World of Warcraft movie has seen any completed work at all -- one item of concept art. We know very little about the film, and the only news we've gotten recently is that Uwe Boll will not be directing it (admittedly that's very good news). Joystiq blogger Kevin Kelly is perfectly fine with that, as he wrote a blog entry over at Spout about why this movie really oughtn't ever get made at all.
Three reasons were provided: Dungeons & Dragons was a disaster, it couldn't earn back its huge budget even if every WoW player in the world went to see it, not even most WoW players know what the story of the game really is. There was a fourth reason, too, but it isn't so much a reason as why it shouldn't be made as why it won't be -- the concept art is all we have after two years.
It's true that the movie couldn't make it on WoW players alone; it'd have to be appealing to people unfamiliar with the franchise, too. But we really doubt that's going to happen, and it doesn't matter anyway because, as we said, it probably will never get made!

A movie is made with so many variable that no one can predict for sure the success and the failure of it. You can have a shitty director but a good crew and cast thats gonna make a great film. Everything always comes back to the story. If the idea is well developped with characters that are lovable and universal the movie will be great and even epic. Look at the first trilogy of Star Wars that was written by the university teacher of George Lucas. The story is a rip off of any first rate quest of dungeon and dragon put into space. The characters made us feel that we wanted to be them. When the second trilogy came out the story was too complicated and intricated. nobody understood squat about the movie. Characters where products of marketing instead of a story. the psychology of Anakin was butchered. A simple good story. They can make some artistics change to the storyline to adapt to the movie. Like Walt Disney said: there is only one true limit. your imagination. Hope they will chose carefully the team for this project and not give us a 2h screensaver.

Angel your use of the M&M vs Ferro Rocher analogy is slightly off. For one thing its more like going into a candy store and grabbing handfuls of every thing and then comparing that to Ferro Rocher. Somewhere in that pile of stuff there's probably an even tastier bit of candy. Yes quantity might not compare to quality, but thats just based on tastes.
Probably one of the biggest reasons why people dislike video game based movies is that they were all done poorly. You can't blame the game for a badly done movie. You can't say that just because this is going to be based on a video game that its going to be bad. So Why don't people just wait and see?
