RuneScape acquires former THQ Creative Director

Since its launch in 2001, Jagex's RuneScape has steadily established a solid presence in the highly-competitive MMO market. Now into the millions of players across the world, the game is said to currently be at its highest surge in popularity. Building from that comes the news that Jagex has just appointed former THQ exec Vince Farquharson to head up their flagship fantasy MMO.

Farquharson' role at THQ included Creative Director and Development Director for three years, overseeing titles such as Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command and Broken Sword: The Angel of Death. He will focus on expanding RuneScape through content development and global distribution. This news comes almost exactly one year to the day after Jagex acquired former European PayPal CEO Geoff Iddison as their own CEO. We wish Farquharson and the rest of the folks at Jagex the best of luck with their future growth.

There has to be something to the Rune Scape deal. My son and all of his friends play it. It appears to be mostly targeted to the younger folks. I've yet to see an adult playing it.

It's playable in a browser, so kids can play it without having to install stuff on their parents PC (well, ok, technically it still stores some information but thats a technicality) and it's a pretty basic game.

I played it for a few years ages ago.

hit rank 24 globally in prayer, found wow. never looked back.

the game is pretty terrible. Java is a horrid engine for a video game, the interface is devoid of keybinds, and is "locked" the game window is less than a third of the screen, without any zoom or fade out capabilitys. it feels like playing a game, while looking through a pinhole camera. with merely a mouse in your left hand and duct tape on your fingers. to top it off, they ripped out every last shred of pvp from the game due to a "war on goldsellers"

its about the worst MMO on the market.
