If you assumed that Jeff Kaplan, the game director of World of Warcraft, would have been an active participant in the Warhammer Online Beta ... well, you'd be wrong. Despite Kaplan's position, connections throughout the industry, and enthusiasm for the genre he and a number of other Blizzard employees were excluded from the Warhammer Online closed beta. MTV's Tracey John continues her string of insider-info articles on the employees and practices of Blizzard Entertainment, noting Kaplan's good relationship with Paul Barnett. In a response to the initial posting of the article, Mythic head Mark Jacobs wrote in saying that "it was Mythic's company policy to not allow competing games' developers into "Warhammer"'s closed betas. Jacobs also said he would've been happy to have any Blizzard staffers join the open beta but was unaware of a specific request to do so."
John also asks the WoW honcho about his opinion of Warhammer as it is post-launch. Kaplan, like many players, is working with a Destruction character and is finding the game's population imbalance a bit frustrating. "I'm at the point where I'm thinking about quitting because it feels like the best way to level up is in the battlegrounds ... it takes me 30 to 45 minutes to get in the battleground queue," he said. Check out the brief interview for more on Kaplan's view of Warhammer, and head over to Broken Toys for some background on this exchange via Scott Jennings.

Are you for real? WoW and WAR are two completely different games. Please don't even try to compare the polish that WoW has to what WAR is running with.
When you have to get addons to DISABLE features (buffs) in order to make RvR fights playable, that is a glaring design flaw.
And here is a note for you: Every game copies something from another game. EQ copied elements from Diku-Mud, DAoC copied elements from EQ and UO, WoW copied elements from EQ, UO, DAoC, WAR copied elements from DAoC and WoW, etc.
Get off your ivory tower, because while the WoW fanboys can be rabid and retarded they do have a point: PvE wise WAR is nowhere near WoW's quality, and RvR wise WoW is not at the content level that WAR is. Again, they are completely different games, and the more one GREAT ideas that one copies from another, the better off we all are as players.

Population has actually been a lot better with the +20% bonus rewards to XP on underpopulated realms. I know that on the 8 or so servers that order got a +20% bonus they quickly got filled with order, easily balancing out the populations.

Sounds more like Jeff is trying to give a "Backhanded Compliment" than say anything positive about the game.
My question is; if he's on a server with his friends why is he having to solo the PQ's?

Pretty funny to hear him griping about realm imbalances and queue times....not saying WAR is perfect in these regards but holy crap...I seem to recall 45 minutes+ queues to just play WoW after release. The Horde to Alliance ratios are way out of whack, the BG queues can still blow up to 15-20 minutes....don't even get me started on the wait time for rated 2's matches....this guy has got some nerve picking those, of all things, as his main complaints.

Not for nothing, but he's one to talk.
But seriously, 30-45 minutes? What server is he playing on? If I don't get into a scenario 10min after I queue then I get worried. Then again, I play on Phoenix Throne.

I don't even wait 10 minutes to get into Tier 3 or 4 queues at 3am on Sylvania. I'd say he picked a very small pop/already imbalanced server to begin with, seeing as there are only a small handful of servers with population imbalances anymore.

What I don't understand is why is he complaining about server imbalances while he himself is joining the overpopulated side?
I'm playing Order for all my chars just to balance (I always like the underdogs) and I don't have long waits for scenarios. Don't know if the Destruction side does or not on the same servers...
I also don't get his statement that he "griefing other people in the Public Quests to try to get influence". Don't really know what he's talking about, but my max chars are both 11's maybe something I've not seen yet.

I play on two low pop servers and i've never had to wait 45 min to get into an SC. at most 10min tops. as far as him saying theres no other way to level? um theres up to like 6 different zones packed with quests in a given tier to level. with WoW's horde to alliance balance issues and it's BG queues this is sorta like calling the kettle black. then again was anyone honestly expecting him to praise WAR?
at the end of the day you put your chips in with whomever you think is the best. after 4 years of WoW i'm done. If you want to feel useless until level 70 with better than kara gear than by all means keep playing WoW. if you want to have fun with no rush to level and actual meaningful PVP, WAR welcomes you.

Um, well on most servers you only wait a matter of 2-5 minutes at max for scenerio queues. They aren't cross-server so that's pretty damn quick.

Tier 1 and 2 I use to wait for a while, but Tier 3 I wait at most 15 minutes.
However all we do is that stupid Elf Scenario with lava all around because on my server, Order likes to just use knockbacks all the times.
It's annoying, but whatever.
I do want to point out that I found PvE to be the easiest to level up in, I find the questing in WaR SOOOOOO much easier then WoW, especially when it comes to quest item drops.

If I had to choose between running Tor Anroc every 15 minutes or having to wait an hour or more for the other scenarios to pop, I would choose to wait. I'm positively sick of running Tor Anroc.
Sad part is Tor Anroc is the only Tier 3 instance that Order will queue for with any regularity on both servers that I play on.

To Blizzard's credit, they allow other developers into their beta.
This is unique. AoC also didn't. Frankly, seeing as how WoW is based on other people's ideas and offered nothing innovative (nor ever has) it's easy to understand why.
As for Kaplan's comments - I play WAR and won't be going back to Lich - but I agree with him 100%. WAR better focus on their end game. Battlegrounds have killed Open World RvR, since Order like to hide in a safe, 'fair' battleground environment.
If I do quit WAR... not sure what MMO I will check out next. WoW's pvp is insultingly imbalanced and I'm not hot about fighting spreadsheets.

LoL you all need to get over it. WoW is WoW and War is War. Although I have since canceled my War account. In all honesty I thought it was a horrid game. Models , sub-par, flow ummm what flow? Maybe it will get better so I kept it installed in the hopes. But really name a game of Mythic's that is not messed up? Fan boi or not just get over it. Those that think WoW is Fugly keep on, we all know you could not get a toon past 10. Those that think War is horrible , well with some reason. But its new and perhaps might get better. WoW was no where near the game it is now back the week after Gold.
To the War Fan-Boi's get over the fact that WoW will in fact be here long long after War. Role a Huntard as they might get you past 10 as you really do not have to think to role one. Stay in your game and if you dont like reading negative things about War then dont start none. You know "won't be any if you don't start any". I come here time after time to see, yes, a War Fan-boi slag WoW. Then try to turn it back on the WoW players. Yes your in this thread and once again on your high horse about a sub-standard game. Get over it, so you can play War , enjoy it. Just do not go calling it the game to end all games, because I will tell you it is no where near good enough.
