For many Massively readers, playing multiple MMOs is a way of life. With so many exciting and new games to choose from lately, it's really difficult to stick with just one. Chances are you've at least played World of Warcraft, although it may not be your primary game. With the introduction of the newest patch yesterday, a more 'casual' player may be a bit overwhelmed at the enormous scope of changes included in Patch 3.0.2.
That's where our sister site WoW Insider has saved the day with their latest WoW, Casually column. In it, we get a brief description of the latest changes in Patch 3.0.2, including the removal of pets and mounts from your inventory space, the new Achievements system, the introduction of the Inscription craft and much more. Check out the complete article, and more on WoW Insider's complete coverage of this newest patch entitled Echoes of Doom.

Not much...as the game is still going to be the same thing...just less appealing..
Good thing Moria is almost here.

I don't normally do this, but I was going to ridicule you here for mentioning LOTRO as a contender this expansion season, as I've always considered this game as a niche experience which has not really hit it's commercial potential because of it's highly narrative nature and missing some core elements, now associated with mainstream MMO's.
Than I read about the new warden class and thought, f**k me that looks pretty awesome, so I just pre-ordered it.
I'm not usually nice, but thanks for the heads up.
I do disagree on what you say about WoW, I think there is a lot of be excited about, however. I just feel that people burn themselves out on it too quickly. I limit myself to 10 hours a week of WoW, and the next week, I'm itching to get back in!

In no way is LOTRO a contender...it just isn't happening. What does happen in LOTRO is the implementation of those things Blizzard has been asked for..
Surnames, RP Support, Epic crafting resources, breaking down gear to upgrage your gear...and so on.
WOW is and as it looks now, always will be a top dog in the MMO business. I just think, in my opinion, that some of these other MMO's offer more that appeal to me than Warcraft does now after 3 years.

Hmm, is WoW becoming a WAR-clone?

Gonna have to second the LOTRO notion.
With Moria on the way and Warhammer already here, the appeal of Wrath is really not there for me. I believe I'm already set on waiting to get Wrath until I'm done with both Moria and Warhammer.

For the casual player, 3.02 will come as a jolt. But as a hardcore wow player not in beta, 3.02 was full of win.
Graphics got a solid overhaul and new shadow engine is great. Glyphs add a great level of custimization to spells that is very welcome. Achievement system blew me away as far as how compelling it is. And the new talents and spells brings excitment back into all.
