It's true that Second Life could be called a chat program with graphics, but the defining difference is that the graphics are user created - and that is a BIG difference as it opens up a whole realm of shared imagination. And as for whether it belongs in this blog, well, it depends. If you talk about"playing a game" what is more important, the "playing" or "the game"? Because I personally think that SL is about playing and playfulness, and it is a game in the sense that two kids put together in a room can invent a game of their own in three seconds flat. It taps into our spirit of playfulness and imagination, which makes it a game in my book - and a fun game too. And play is a really important and underrated activity in adulthood, because it is what drives all kinds of creative activity, from art to scientific research, because the whole basis of of these endeavours is two people in a room saying "what if...". That is why educators, tech geeks and artists are all involved in Second Life.

Of course, if it is only "the game" that's important, the dividing into "winners" and "losers" then it shouldn't be here. But that's would be a pretty impoverished way to play any game - surely the idea of all of them is to have fun?
