Why is it a problem? Square Enix has been doing it for years on the PS2 and 360. Why doesn't SOE just call them up, see how they did it? They did it on the PS2 to boot, doing it on the PS3 can't be that much harder.

PS3 certification is obviously different than PS2.

I still don't see a problem though. Why not just release both once the PS3 update has been certified?

Just keep your testing rigorous to limit the need for emergency patches.

Maybe we could ask if anyone plays FFXI on a PS3 using reverse compatibility with their PS2? If they can do that, then doing an mmo entirely on PS3 can't be that hard.
