The game's been interesting. While the Tome of Knowledge is a great idea, I still am finding myself not caring about the story whatsoever... Although maybe that's what Mythic figured would happen, so they packed it away in the Tome for only the most interested to read.

For me, though, this is kind of an issue as it effectively kills off the main thing that keeps me interested in MMORPGs for a significant period of time. If I don't care about what's going on, I eventually stop caring about everything else much more quickly than I otherwise would.

I kind of play it like an action game. I run around and blow things up and die on a level I've not really experienced in other MMORPGs. It's fun, but I do wonder how long my interest will be held by that sometimes... But with the cities going up in rank and the inevitable city attacks, I think I'll have a reason to play it for a while.

It's a good game, either way.

I think the story will sneak up on people in time.

In a sense, WAR's story is a victim of its successful design to get people interacting with each other in a multiplayer space. There's just so much to do, and so many distractions, that reading a big wall of text and imagining a static story palls in comparison to grouping up with a bunch of people and doing something awesome.

I've only -just- started reading the Tome in-depth on an alt, at off-peak intervals when guildies are offline and the action finally slows down enough for a bit of solo immersion questing. The epic quests are quite a treat if one takes the time to read the lore text.

And I'm rather impressed by the WAR story, chapter by chapter that I raced through without really knowing what the NPCs were there for, and how the PQs tie into the theme of the chapter. Looking forward to the remaining chapters as they unveil themselves.

If your like many of us and are forced to level a "main" at breakneck speed to keep up with guildies and friends it is well worth it to make an alt for exploration. My blackorc is my main focus but I made a sorcerer for when the pq's and scenarios empty out for the night. I have found more super badass stories than I would of expected!
For one even after months in beta's I never knew that giant black thing to the right of the dark elf starting area was a freaking ship! I always thought it was a castle hehe. And the stories even in the noobie areas are really intrigueing.
They need to make it so you can read your tomb when your offline, like at work =P

That's absurd, you do not have any pressure at ALL to level... You put that on yourself. I find the the best way to truly enjoy this game is level at your own speed, and join a guild when you get to higher levels. Hardcore end game levelling guilds are always a fast track to destroying all the fun mmo's have to offer. "Lets all race through the content so we can impress each other with numbers, screw the fun and immersion"
Chill out. The game is new. Oh you used the word noob... This post will be wasted on you...
