This article forgets to mention that once a patch has been deployed it has to be patched again.

If they just used a single-system image, i.e. an operating system that gives the illusion that the whole cluster is only one machine will a lot of of processors and memory, they wouldn't have to rewrite anything, since what they want to do could simply be done with regular threads.

Someone mentioned this on the forum, using some sort of virtualisation to handle the threads. I think they're looking into it.

They CCP team should really look into Erlang, that would solve their multicore issues. Erlang supports multicore out of the box, you don't even have to rewrite your code to take advantage of all the cores in the CPU.
