wow.. just wow. That's moronic on so many levels. The fact that terrorists would A. download and learn how to play an RPG so they could plan attacks. B. use a service that requires CREDIT CARD SUBSCRIPTION. If they use real cards they're easily traced.. if they use a forged one thats another risk to getting the plot found out. and C. the fact that they'd use such a public chat medium when private, secret and encrypted chat mediums are far easier to use.

dem pentagons best be trollin'

The entire idea is ridiculous. Terrorists could use all sorts of ways of communicating, just because one is "cool" and "new" doesn't mean they're going to. Dear Pentagon "researcher", ask the crypto people about steganography, it's not actually a herbivore dinosaur.

There are innumerable ways of hiding information in other information, be it by use of "code phrases", watermarks in pictures, carefully timed TCP packets or who knows what else. This isn't knew, and there are people doing a lot more worthwhile research into the subject than trying to claim WoW is a serious issue.

wait, it would be great if terrorists tried to use WoW to communicate. think about it, in betweeen plotting they'd do a few quests... start to enjoy themselves... join a guild... and pretty soon their terrorist plots would be delayed by MONTHS!!

Not even a new idea! The spooks are too busy being paranoid to have original thoughts!

It was discussed in the book "Synthetic Worlds: The Business and Culture of Online Games" by Edward Castronova.

Sounds to me like the boys at the Pentagon are just making up excuses to play WoW at work.
