Ahh, I thought Jesus loved everybody, even fanbois. That photo of him with a can of fainboi Raid shattered my entire belief system!

Everyone keeps telling me I look like Jesus now... I look a bit different when my glasses are on, but they had a glare on the screen when I took my picture. :(

My only question is why "fanboi" has replaced "fanboy" in online vernacular? I can't stand it lol.

I've never really understood why people get so into that sort of stuff. I used to do it when I was a kid and thought Nintendo could do absolutely no wrong, but I grew out of it and realized good games are good games and that I'm simply not going to love everything that other people love.

I tried to defend it, as I think fanbois and fanboys are two different and separate entities. The fanboy is more of a person who really loves something, but isn't as highly annoying and has more acceptable behavior.

The fanboi, hence the annoying name, is more along the lines of what we believe to be the traditional fanboy - annoying.

> This post will go live, and less than a second later a fanboi will make some insane statement on a message board.

Because you're right and they're wrong right? :o)

Now we're of course dealing with the subjective phenomenon "humor" again, but how are some of those sentences and links of yours different from "personal attacks" and "insulting monikers"?

Also, I *really* don't get why you'd go with AoC fanboys defending it and WoW fanboys hating on WAR, when AoC fans should be on some extinct species list and the first thing you'll hear in response to WAR criticism anywhere is "go back to WoW". Do I smell some favoritism? In fact, the whole post smells of one of those pretend to take the high ground just so we can fanboi some more from there posts you see on forums every once and a while.

The developer comments are ok, but a bit more content and a tad less emotion would have worked wonders here.

The examples I used actually were a bit arbitrary. I'm not officially a member of the groups I explained above, and I only have so much space to use examples. I can see how you could think it would sound like fanboi-ing, but I can tell you honestly that it was me attempting to pick situations that would resound with a number of readers.

And, like I said, I was attempting to try something different here, perhaps not clearly getting the kind of point I wanted to make. Thanks for the feedback, as always.

Fanbois generate more page hits, and thus pay for your salary.

You're welcome.

Bah, now I feel bad. Don't turn out to be reasonable please, this is the Internet for crap's sake.

The problem with this topic is that you can't do right really, "fanboi" isn't really.. a term with meaning anymore. It's an insult usually flung at people who like a game, often by others who don't or have their own preference. And some Massively bloggers do tend to try fanning these flames, seemingly following crsh's logic, being less.. shall we say arbitrary in their examples?

If anything I'll give you credit for trying to tackle it though, as it is a major part of the MMO scene.

Well thank you for that, recursive. :)

Yeah... writing this article was tough. It went through a couple revision, actually. But, as you said, the point is just too omnipresent.

Many of us get so tied up into loving one game and touting it over another, attempting to almost blaspheme other games out of existence just because they're not "our" preferred game.

What we should be doing is giving love to any game that is made by developers who put their hearts and souls into the product, and create a game worthy of playing. Sure, Asheron's Call isn't a game I'd go out and play, but I respect the game and Turbine Entertainment for the innovation they made with the game and how long it has run.

But, bah, I'm wishing for something that will never happen again. Oh well I guess... at least we can wish.

Hey Colin.. You been peeking at Ask Massively much lately? =) (http://www.massively.com/category/ask-massively)

You're right, of course. The downside of an open Internet is that the signal-to-noise ratio is a lot lower. Readers have to exercise a little more effort to filter out the morons in our midst.

I'll take a crate of Fanboi-Raid when you decide to go into production with it.

Cats are totally better than dogs and anyone who doesn't think that way is a flipping tosser...oh wait, what were we talking about? ;)

Don't think these knuckleheads are restricted to gaming. Some people have gone off their frigging rockers when Bob Barker left The Price is Right.
