That's correct. What SLim is is a completely separate IM and person-to-person voice call system that happens to be limited to Second Life users only.

witht he client being open sourced, what is stopping people from adding Jabber or wahtever to it?

As far as we know, the SLim client *isn't* going to be open-sourced. Vivox's open source initiative doesn't appear to include that.

Ah. I'm not sure how much use it would be. The changes in the SL viewer seem to be quite minor. Since SLim isn't a part of the SL grid, Vivox is doing all the heavy lifting.

Essentially, I don't think it'll be any harder or easier to implement jabber support in the SL viewer with or without the source code from the first-look.

Also, there's less incentive for LL to add Jabber or any other third-party IM support now that they've got connectivity to Vivox's SLim network.
