What about playing MMOs? Anyone know (or have a good guess at) the average upload/download size of playing an MMO for an hour? How many hours would I have to play to hit the limit?

Looking at my usage meter (I'm in Australia where metered internet is the norm), playing an MMO sucks up 10-20 MB of traffic per hour.

So you'd have to log something like 12,500 - 25,000 hours of MMO playtime in a month to use your entire 250 GB quota.

Just fyi, there are 744 hours in a month of 31 days...

Nice inflammatory headline and article...too bad its wrong. They arent starting anything, they are merely making the limit in black and white instead of leaving customers guessing. As someone who did tech support for em(dont flame me please, I was one of those that knew what I was doing on the phone), the limit was always around this, though even we werent told exactly the allowable GB either.
Also, tons of folks get by on less. Ive seen posts elsewhere that have ppl saying their limit is 20GB, so it aint so bad.

Those motherfucking pigs need to have more competition or this monopoly will ruin the market for all cable users. They have no one to stop them from reducing the max bandwidth usage, no one to curb their ridiculous increasing monthly charge for degrading services, no one to check and ensure they hold their end of the bargain in terms of advertised speed.

Comcast already has in place a system to delay and sometimes block peer-to-peer technology (Bittorrent), and now they are instating a hard cap on your internet usage. Prices are going up for less and less service in the guise of "optimizing for a better experience to the user" but all they're doing is putting a limit across-the-board for all users - spending zero dollars in increasing capacity.

The Xbox360 is releasing streaming movie rentals from Netflix later this year which means there is going to be a noticeable rise in bandwidth demand and use.

People need to stop bending over and taking it, and take action against this unchecked evil monopoly giant. Switch to broadband over-the-air or if available switch to a different broadband service provider; they're guaranteed to be cheaper for the same service - sans the restriction and lies.

Who cares about the less than 1% of people that create 80% of the highway traffic?

Comcast has always had limits. But this is the first time they are making them known. And that's a much better limit than expected, a lot are under 50GB, which you can easily hit.

Playing MMOs use very little of this limit, its the downloading updates/clients a well as movies/music/documents that can fill up the limit. I have a 60GB limit here in Ontario and am no where near close to the limit.

wow.

Here in Australia, 20gb is about the average cap. Most ISPs here don't offer a plan above 100gb.

I have a 40gb cap, and currently play 2 MMOs and was also involved in the Warhammer beta, and I didn't hit my cap.

250gb? What are you people doing with all that data?!

Porn, lots, and lots of porn. Oh and youtube, lots, and lots of porn on youtube.

Joking aside, the 250GB limit is much more then fair, if you go over it you must have a lot of cash and buying a ton of stuff online, or downloading / uploading to much illegal content. Dedicated fiber is still available for people in a lot of places, faster, more bandwidth, mucho expensive.

Comcast still needs to expand there network (They are, by god they are) but this dose not happen overnight. They are nation wide, that is a huge network to upgrade / expand.

In the end I am glad they have come forth with this limit, I like not paying for others to hog my node.

That's quite a broad limit, I doubt it'd hurt MMO players. There's also throttling of the bandwith for heavy users involved I think I read, but again it's the really, really heavy users who'll even get a whiff of this.

Rather this than charging content providers for traffic, betcha that would come out of our pockets. Though I'm sure we haven't heard the last of that proposition either.

Well from what I see an hear on television, in the not too distant future our houses will be connected to the Internet. Refrigerators, stoves, lights, and even television broadcast come straight from the Internet. Is comcast not ready for the future? It makes one wonder if you own their stock. Just my 2ยข

I pay for Comcast at the moment and also pay for their extra speed package. I do this because I am a graphic designer that does video work.

Needless to say, I upload and download a LOT of data. I would say at least 1 gig a day on average flows through these pipes. Plus the 10 gig WAR client I re-downloaded because I wasn't sure the closed beta one would work for open beta. Plus all the streaming TV my family watches. The internet radio I listen to while working. My phones are also Voice over IP....

Comcast will loose me as a customer real fast if they put limits up anyway. I don't think I will be the only one either.

In the UK we've had limits for ages, and with the coming of ADSL2+ and higher speeds, apparently our limits will actually be getting tighter.

So to me, the complaining means squat, welcome to our world. Welcome to an growing media-based internet with it's balls cut off.

I really look forward to the day when my ISP options are less limited. Regardless of this limit, I'm really tired of Comcast being one of my only options because they have such a stranglehold on the market.

You seriously have to be in the top percentage of internet users to even "approach" this limit. Everyone says they will cancel, everyone complains about this and that, but when it's time to pony up and do anything you don't. Welcome to the Anonymous World Wide Web.
