Eh, I'm not sure what this article is supposed to accomplish - apart from comment flamewar between WoW and EVE players?

I like EVE more than WoW as well - come interview me? And for a real shocker you can also write an artile about someone who likes WoW better than EVE.

Meh, failed article has failed.

I canceled my WoW subscription about a month ago for this reason. I love the game but between college, work, my girlfriend, and friends it's really difficult to devote enough time to the game to be successful. A lot of the expansion stuff seems to be aimed at making that better though, so maybe I'll come back when it's released.

Ummm duh? WoW is for children and females. The reason for it's popularity is the same reason that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Vin Diesel are cast as kindergarten teachers.

If people want games that do not take time and are quite entertaining here's a few suggestions:

Minesweeper
Solitaire
Spider Solitaire
Mahjong.

Oh no, not another "EvE is for smart people, WoW is for dummies" comment. The fact is that EvE is a very easy game if you want it to be. Just stay in hi-sec and do missioning and mining. Very easy. Sure it can be hard if you want it to be and set yourself ambitious goals, but then so can WoW. After all, how many WoW players have managed to kill the last boss of Sunwell Plateau? Almost none, it's not an easy game at the highest level.

From my brief experience of playing EvE, I believe that the real reason it remains a niche MMO is not that it is too hard, but that it is full of bugs, has horrible lag problems, and a lousy UI. If CCP would devote some time and effort to dealing with these issues I think they would double their subscriptions at least. After all, suppose you were on a trial account, innocently went to Jita, unaware of its reputation, and got kicked out of the game for 30 minutes due to lag, would you consider paying a monthly fee to continue with that kind of experience? Well I know I didn't.

You can take any part of any game, and say that one is easier than the other. Now look at what MOST of the people do in a game. In WoW, it's probably 50/50 PvE vs PvP..in EVE, it's considerably more PvP.

PvP will always, overall, be harder than PvE. AI is limited, and repetitive. Sure, the first few guilds that do a mob have some significant challenges, but after a few runs, they get the strat down well enough that they can put it on 'farm' status. I've been in high-end guilds since EQ, and most people are just decent players who know how to play their class and can listen to directions given by raid leaders. I've played with many people who barely see more than a full group that can play thier class as good or better as those in high-end guilds. The point is, PvE content can hardly be considered challenging.

With PvP, there are always variables, always exceptions. No two encounters are going to play out the same. Now both WoW and EVE have a significant PvP component. Which is more challenging? Neither. EVE is more strategic. In most cases, your strategy and planning beforehand determine the outcome of the battle...not the battle itself. With WoW, if you're fighting someone about your level, it's the actual fight and tactics you use that will determine the outcome. I would say it takes more skill for PvP battles in WoW. But it's just as challenging, just in a different way.

If you look at the entirety of both games, you have to admit that the average player does a lot more thinking in EVE than WoW. The game is so much more complex. It doesn't mean it's for smart people...it just means it's for people who prefer that type of gameplay. It's not hard in and of itself, it's just got a lot more for you to learn. Some people just want to jump in and whack heads, not go over the complexities of a galactic economy and corp/alliance territorial struggles.

Also with your EVE comments....did you frickin play at launch or something? I haven't played it since late last year and it was considerably better than what you describe. It's not ultra-polished like WoW, but no game is.

I've tried Eve about 4 times now over the past few years. Its still an unplayable lag fest everytime I attempt the 7 day trial. I barely get to day 5 before I get the shits with yet another downtime surrounded by unplayable Lag.

Got me buggered how any Aussie plays it in our Prime Time.

For those type of folks, I'm sure it's better.

EVE is a wild west simulator coupled with an economic simulator, disguised as a game.

Comparing EVE to WoW is like comparing Europa Universalis to Baldur's Gate. They're both good games in their own right but they appeal to vastly different tastes.
