"On the other hand, if they're not listening, we bring out our Machiavellian chess"

People actually put any faith in this CSM business?

Granted I'm a very cynical person, but CCP has zero obligation towards player concerns expressed through the CSM, it's their game and they do whatever the hell they want with it.

The CSM has no power, nor any influence; they exist solely because CCP allowed it in the first place. It's sort of "make you feel better" measure that has little to no consequence on the game; CCP ignores what doesn't fit with their vision, and grants small changes to keep the joke going (aka "players have the power to change things").

The CSM, players altogether, have no Machiavellian chess whatsoever; sounds to me some folks are waking up and realizing they got played.

CSM's role as I see it is to educate and synergize the EVE community in order to identify and intelligently discuss significant imbalances or potentially great new features in the game, and then be a calm collected single voice that presents those ideas in a digestible way to CCP--not to be a juggernaut that forces CCP to submit to player demands based on petty or narrow-minded wishlists.

I think that is one of the longest run-on sentences I have ever written, LOL!

That is impressive, Mynxee.

Also it's mentioned in my post but I just want to stress that the quotes in The Escapist piece are from two months ago, when the CSM had first gone to Reykjavik.

The delegates may have different perspectives now than they did then, given how new and uncertain it all was... but this is what was quoted by The Escapist. It caught my attention, anyway.

I'm actually curious if Shayne Smart's outlook has changed since the Reykjavik meeting.
