Like AO, its going to get a bad rep at launch and turn into a great game that no one plays. Regrettable, I kinda like funcom as a company, they just keep making noobie mistakes.

Too little, too late.

Oh and the first post he answered in had been locked because he didn't want to answer some difficult questions.

Does he remind anyone else of the original Augustus Gloop from the old Willy Wonka movie?

That guy is a straight up used car salesmen. He talks out of his ass with no regard for being factually correct. Time and time again during closed Beta I'd see him lie about feature completeness in his interviews, a habit that has continued even into the present day.

Of course, now people can directly see how many things are wrong with AoC and his masquerade is thus much less artful. However, he continues to spout hype and promises that will only come to fruition far off into the future (but never in the timely manner he promises them).

I understand he's just the spokesman trying to keep his game alive... and on that level he deserves some "understanding"... but respect? never. Both he and Funcom deserve NONE.

IMO talk to me in your patchnotes Funcom, not the message boards. THAT type of communication is something i can respect.

I would have happily kept playing until WotLK came out if they could have just fixed all the memory leaks, crashes, bugs, etc. Wasn’t going to continue to pay for a game in that condition. I’ll try it again in a year or so and see how it is.

I canceled my account today. My biggest problem with the game is that all of my friends canceled two months ago and went back to WoW.

With that, my char is only mid-30's and it seems like there are never enough casual players in my range to form a group... and I can't do the current mission set by myself (and I don't want to join a guild).

All that said, I still enjoy this game and hope to come back to it in a few months or a year. Like so many, I'm hoping WAR is the second coming of MMO, and I think the colorful cast of races/classes and well developed backstory will probably be enough to keep me interested.

The age of Conan forums are a seriously negative place. It's amazing how hostile the people on that forum are towards the game. Although I've argued several times on massively in defense of the game, I do think there are many shortcomings. However, I think we should be patient with the devs and let them improve the game. You don't have to play in the meantime, but at least give them a break and stop acting like it's the end of the world that the game isn't as good as you want it to be right now. I respect Erling Ellingsen though. It's tough for the Funcom people but I have high hopes. I'm going to be taking a break from AoC for a bit (preordered the WAR CE, so have a beta and early access to take advantage of), but I'm certain to come back to it. My character is a level 64 at the moment, and have enjoyed the game thoroughly so far.

The thread on the forum, much like most of their servers will soon be, is now closed.

Fuck this fat man. They should have capped levels at 60, cause the game became a PURE grind after 55. While their combat was amazing, gratz to their combat designer, everything else was hilariously bad. Did anyone at funcom even play an MMO before? No economy, zone design was shit, not much diversity in environments, itemization was TOTAL SHIT, gear looked like crap across the board, took months to add fast travel, quests are ALL uninspired, story content was a let down tease which ended at 20, end game pvp was lame and broken...

Again, combat was skill based. As much as this game BLEW, I am not looking forward to grinding away in Lich King to get gear. You could turn fights around, take out higher leveled characters if you out-played them, and it was FFA pvp, which was great.

I think I'm angry cause this game could have been SOOO GOOD!

As a former player (level 80 necro don't even get me started on that), I haven't read what he has to say. I can guess the gist of it. Please continue pay to play our game we released before it was ready. It is getting better all the time. There is new content, better quests, functional seige warfare and ice cream just around the corner. Its going to be released soon...

Sure, it is...

Actually Warhammer is going to release, then the WOW expansion is going to release, and the AoC servers are going to be empty. They will merge servers and eventually get the game working... delivering what they promised.... and it will be too late. They will send emails inviting people back to the game, and people have moved on and want no part of it

Yeah.. It's good that he's communicating, but I'm going to wait and have it proven to me I think.

I still believe they could get it right enough eventually, but they need to start going by their own strengths (and make some more along the way).

Still, I wonder how many learnt lessons we'll see in their new MMO endavour.

They had their shot at the mmo market and they blew it again, the game was a good for about 40 hours of entertainment , but never really felt like more then a single player game. The combat system isnt that good , you can barely tell what your enemy is doing and sometimes you don't really notice what classes they are , especially in hectic group battles.

Instead of doing some excellent stuff and some less , they ended up doing everything mediocre , which doesn't seem to be able to keep people interested. Within 5 weeks , huge guilds disappeared, as did mine , I have to admit I wasn't one of the last ones to stick around either though. My guild (which wasn't an all out recruit guild , we were a community only allowing our own people into the guild) went from 320 players to about 40 in 2 weeks , 4 weeks later about 20 , 5 weeks later officially quit Age of Conan.

The game has potential , everyone can see that , but after seeing how the developers handled the first 2 months, everyone simply gave up.

Next try will be warhammer , let us all hope this one does a better job , because I really doubt age of conan will be able to lure back players in 7-8 months , which is the time needed to get the game in the state it should have been.

The trouble with Funcom is that they keep promising and don't seem too concerned with delivering; AoC players have been told for months, since launch in late May actually, about what's "coming soon".. Everything promised is still on "coming soon" status, including the PvP update they keep postponing.

I'm all against forum wars and the generally hostile settings on the AoC forums, but Funcom has no one to blame but themselves; communication level is crap, promise vs. delivery is crap, Funcom from the bits that players are hearing just sounds completely disconnected from the game.

Ellingsen and everyone else at Funcom ought to get their act together and fast.

This game is failing miserably. To the guy that said he looks like someone from Willy Wonka, I started a humerous post in the forums there that he looked like Francis from Pee Wee's big adventure and linked a photo of the guy that played Francis. They banned me for attacking a staff member with crude imagery lmao. I should email the actor and tell him Funcom is saying his picture is crude imagery and maybe he can sue them for public defamation. This company is screwed up but it all starts at the top. They need a new direction and new leadership to make the game work.

He definitely needs a defensive stance at this point. The PVP servers are dying off big time. Deathwhisper and Tyranny the two largest ones are facing huge issues as guilds abandon the game in mass.

On Deathwhisper every single Battle Keep holding guild is leaving, and the remaining guilds are too small to even build a city to try to take any of the keeps. Tyranny appears to be suffering from a similar exodus as well.

The murder system will simply kill what little world PVP remains, sieges don't work, and arenas are worthless.

I have them a State of AOC assessment back in early July from the perspective of being one of their leading PVP guilds in the game (http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=121273). We are two buildings from a complete Tier 3 Guild city, and just place our Tier 3 Armor Smith building.

They launched an incomplete game, focused on fixing the wrong things in the post release time frame, continuously missed deadlines, and the extremes of their nerfs/adjustments simply showed they don't know beans about their own game.

AOC will be a ghost town when Warhammer releases, especially on their PVP servers which by their own accounts were the most popular server types.

Good riddance to this POS game.

I'm surprised you saw honesty in his replies, I saw a lot of spin and avoidance of the toughest questions. If your fallback defense is the product was just as bad as the competition when they first came out then you're really up the creek.

Why do we give MMO's a free pass? Even after considering the breadth and scope of the average MMO, we need to remember we invested $50 on the front end of these games. Should we settle for half a game, while the dev's get their act together? I say no. We deserve the full game we paid full price for, and further enhancements we support with our monthly fees. We shouldn't settle for some half-assed game, and then float them even more cash to get it up to just par.

Oh yeah, my acct. cxl'd yesterday. Too bad-- I loved my ToS, hated everything else.

I agree that it's too little too late. The game at its core had alot of promise, but beyond the combat system it's all a little too Vanilla.

But neither Funcom nor the lacky who you're talking about deserves our respect, they've consistenly lied to us, misled us, and wasted our time and money. They may as well just copy and paste portions of the local phonebook into their patch notes, for all the good they do.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I mean they couldn't even get the dialogue camera to work right before launch, that sounds like an alpha/beta problem to me.
