LOL the article image looks like it says

"GUILD TITIES"

Maybe it's just my twisted mind that saw that though.

For those looking for the complexity of Shadowbane's cities in a new game, do not come to Conan. These cities are pre-placed. Your choices are which buildings to place in what slot, but all the placements are already decided for you.

The walls are preplaced, you simply buy them and up they go. You have no say in where the walls are or anything like that. The edition of NPC's to make them look crowded will not help the feel of the city being alive because there's nothing inside most buildings. They're just an empty shell.

If you do not have a city in the zone instance(3 cities), you can not get to the guild city. So people having events can only invite those that have cities there, no random inviting of people because they can't get there. The so called Battlekeeps are an exact copy of the city you already built. The Battlekeep zone is just a copy of the player city zone.

The much talked about city system is nothing compared to an MMO that came out in 2003(shadowbane), and is only marginally more functional than claiming a keep in DAOC.

And from what I understand, even Ultima Online originally handled player housing/cities a lot better than Age of Conan. It feels like game developers these days are taking forward steps in the graphics departments and backward steps in gameplay and game mechanics.

Age of Conan's cities look impressive but having no choice in where to place buildings is a needless restriction. Being instanced, invulnerable and hard to get to doesn't help either. Instead of a city, it feels like you're building a massive monument that gives your guild some small combat bonuses.
