The one place where the system breaks down is in leather and cloth.

I got something of a late start on crafting; at the lower levels there's too much other stuff to do, and I pretty much had sworn off of anything that looks like grinding. Also, for much of my early levelling, the Cotton nodes were bugged and gathering them yielded nothing.

The different sorts of leather only drop for certain level ranges of varmints. Here, the problem was slightly different. I had outlevelled the tier 1 varmints and the zones they lived in by the time I had the quest.

Were I to want to finish these quests, it would mean hours of grinding on grey mobs. That is no fun, no challenge, and annoys other players who need those mobs for their own quests and benefit from killing them much more than I do. At least for the items that must be gathered from mobs, Funcom really needs to make it so you can buy your way past them, and it doesn't matter if you gathered it yourself.

The upside is that the quests seem to make absolutely no difference, as far as I can tell, in your ability to collect leather and cloth from the mobs. I get that stuff as drops even though I have never trained it as a skill.

Heya Herc,
Currently there is a bug *exploit!!!* that allows you to pass the quests with trader bought mats. Simply buy a stack of 20 leather whatever, split the stack so you have one in your inventory and 19 in your bank. Log out and back in, grab the stack out of your bank and drop it directly onto the one in your resource tab. Walla you just got 19/20 done! Funcom is aware of this (I asked a gm about it cause I didn't want to get banned for doing it) and there not sure if there going to fix it any time soon. I know on the testlive server its still working as of sunday. I hate the fact that I have to use a bug to finish quests but at level 80 I spent easily 4 hours in a noobie zone getting 3 leather, and getting screamed at by every passing noobie for being a "chinese farmer". The drop rate drops the higher level you are from the mobs level btw ><

There are allot of bugs still in aoc, atleast a few work in our favor.

(if this violates any sort of forum posting rules feel free to delete this post, I won't be offended)

Good luck!

Cool article, thanks.

I'm level 46 now and haven't even touched any of the crafting/professions yet. I'm sort of regretting it though, because I only have about 95 silver and still need one gold before I can get a mount + training (75silver for the mount and 1 gold for training).
