To the ones being worried about everyone wanting to be a Jedi.

Han Solo was badass too! And so also Chewbecka!

Enough said.

I really cannot wait. Sadly, it's probably several years out.

If EA have basically come out and said it info will begin appearing pretty soon.

Don't see why all classes can't have access to some force powers, also make Jedi pick a far more specific path, interms of abilities, whereas give the other classes more freedom, so reward players for not playing Jedi by making them more versatile, make Jedis rewarding to play because they're pretty tough to get right and your choices, once you start making them limit your character much more tightly. I think the best way would be, assuming they follow a wow-esque talent spec force them to spend points improving their force pool, so they can have kickass ability X or more force power, so you have the most awesome jedi, however he can't do very much before needing a sit down and a cup of tea, or a really specific build, but can keep going for a few days before calming down.

Bioware no longer exists. This has got the stench of EA all over it. Anyone willing to shell out money for this abortion-in-training is going to get what they deserve.

Why the worry about jedi/non-jedi balance? It's nothing a convenient chunk of kryptonite can't solve.

Wohoo lets take a game none for its story, put it in a game where a story is an afterthought and make us pay for it. They sure as hell be coming out with kotor 3 being a single player game.

This could either be insanely good or insanely bad... The possibility of it being good is obvious--KotOR was epic. But almost every MMO ever released bombs horribly as soon as it gets it's foot out the door. Look at AoC and Vanguard and Tabula Rasa and so many others. I wouldn't want to see the KotOR franchise die as a dishonorable death as that.

And this does reek horribly of EA. Warhammer Online got screwed up thanks to the big-wigs at EA and their wanting to release now and beat WotLK to the market, I wonder how they'll manage to turn this into a pile of steaming dung.

Oh great another Star Wars MMO where everyone and their 9 kids + 4 dogs can roll a jedi. Don't allow anyone to become jedi and this game has the potential to become epic.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

"Getting one-shotted by a jedi who can deflect your every attack seems a little... extreme."

In KoTOR II, there were feats that neutralized the Jedi's deflect abilities via penalties. Plus, a Jedi that focused on deflect was weak in other areas.

But yes, I'd imagine there will be a lot of Jedi. I can see a lot of fixes for it, though - unlockable class, minimum level (if it's level based) ala KoTOR I, scaling of the class across levels, etc.

But yeah, the key problem with a SW MMO is that Jedi are, by definition, the best of the best. You have to either negate that a bit, or let others improve it.

But I disagree that everyone will be a Jedi. I suspect 70% Jedi, 25% Boba-Fett's great great great ancestor, 5% everyone else. ;)

I'm hoping that the Jedi class comes down to more than force powers and plasma swords. A true jedi diplomat would be awesome, and I think Bioware could pull off a pretty good non-combat side to the MMO. And if there is a big non-com focus, suddenly smugglers, nobles and the like are pretty important.

I'm fairly certain that "Jedi" won't be a class.

Jedi Guardian, Jedi Sentinel, Jedi Counselor perhaps.

Have you guys *played* KoTOR or KoTOR II?

I've played plenty of SWRPG, and even then, people play things other than Jedi. But when you do have 2-3 jedi in a party, it tends to be a fighty jedi, a manipulative jedi and a force powers jedi, or something similar....

This is a game being *built* around the idea that Jedi are prevalent, and obvious. They just might consider that fact when they go around designing it. SWG had Jedi as a sort of secret extra class, up until NGE, so they didn't need to worry about lots of them.

Post-NGE has a ton of design flaws, so you can't really credit that.

Plus, when exactly did Bioware die? I think I missed that....

@lordofpie: I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna make you pay for it. They may offer you the option to play it, but I don't think they'll get a law passed, or anything.... Also, MMO Lack of Story. LoTRO did a pretty good job of showing that. Heck, even SWG has (had) a pretty deep and involved story aspect in things like the Themeparks.

in KOTOR, Jedi is a religious sect. There are plenty of other folks running around that use the force for their needs.

Out of curiuosity, why can't Wookies be Jedi?

They can its just very, very rare. In the post-Galactic Civil War era there is a Wookie Jedi (Hes Chewbacca's nephew). And WTF Massively your Spell check says Wookie is a misspelled word >< shame on you.

BTW -- it's actually spelled Wookiees. Which still triggers the spellcheck, but is geekmatically correct.

Well, I didn't know how to feel about KoTOR being an MMO. I trust Bioware to produce great games. EA didn't come into the picture until late into production so , I hope Bioware can pull it off.

What I want out of this game is the chance to play a HK-47 like Hunter Killer droid so I can kill all you Meatbags and make the mmo world a better place. From the way Hk-47 was talking, killing jedi was easy.
