The game will be enhanced and changed and it might get there in a year but by then other MMOs will take the users away. They won't be able to beat Warhammer Online.

I think WarHammer Online already put them self out of the race... all the cuts they make make it look like they will go the same way as AoC.... and they not will have the great L1-20 arena to save them. And the Warhammer beta is worst them the AoC beta.... it does not look good!

I didn't miss the voice acting. For the most part I wasn't exactly impressed by it. I can see how it's a big change, however. I actually wound up focusing more on the close-ups to characters you were talking to and how sloppily they appeared (I'm happy, but let me do an angry animation!).

Really, when it comes down to it Tortage is just incredibly focused. You can follow a main quest line, but you can also still PvP and visit areas that have no major bearing on that quest line.

As soon as you finish this, you're brought to a massive new city that somehow feels less alive and more barren. And certainly a lot less interesting. Frankly, I could barely care about the random NPCs in Tortage, let alone the ones I had even less ties to after level 20.

It's not simply the lack of identity your character has. At least not for me. It's that it's clear Tortage got a lot of attention and that many other things did not. It almost feels like a separate game.

I've played a lot of MMORPGs, but the difference here was staggering. It makes the main world feel overwhelming in some senses, but not in a good way. I wonder in some senses if the rest of the game would seem as bad if it didn't open so (comparatively, anyway) strongly.

I might try it out again in a few months (I'm still bitter over the day before release DX10 removal announcement buried in a "AoC is awesome!!!" press release), but I have little interest in going back. And it's a shame too, because despite the imbalance of some of the classes, AoC was one of the few MMORPGs where I felt several of the classes sounded interesting to play (at least theoretically).

Oh well.

Thank you for voicing what I have been feeling ever since leaving Tortage. I don't care if there are no more destiny quests, but I want to feel as if intrigue was constantly in the air, and that I am always making decisions about what side I want to be on.

Perfect example. The politician in the Wild Lands of Zelata. He asks you to bribe people to further his career. You can either do the quests or not. Those are your only two options. You can't keep his money. You can't go tell the governor that he is after his job. You can't sell the information to anyone else. WHY NOT?

Options like that, even if they don't actually change the world or the storyline, would make it seem like I am master of my own destiny, and not just - as you say - an errand boy.

I think you're right on about how the focus of the game shifts away from you as the player, post Tortage. For me there was something else too. I enjoyed the Destiny quest although I expected to hate it. If you completed the storyline you built up to this epic battle at the end. I had to plan when I would continue with my DS quests because you can't get help. Is your gear good enough? Do you have enough comps and time to do it? Things like that. After beating the last boss you feel pretty uber - at least I did. It felt like downing my first raid boss in WOW. What happens after that is you're just ported away and dumped into a new questing hub. I was like WTF didn't I just win AOC? That epic feeling was immediately drenched by staring at another NPC with a quest marker over his head.
