Earlier today, we posted a link to an article over at Warhammer Alliance that accused Mythic of conducting a "marketing magic show" on their fan-base by refusing to come forward with many of the juiciest, most controversial details about Warhammer Online yet to be released. Judging by the comments on that post, the disagreement about the quality of Mythic's efforts to date is stark indeed.
In a demonstration of class and forthrightness, Mythic co-founder and designer Mark Jacobs stepped forward on the WHA forums today to address the editorial directly, taking apart the argument piece by piece. He outright rejects the notion that the marketing department is calling the shots when it comes to the release of details, saying that the flow of information begins and ends at his desk. He further disputes the notion that the game is unfinished or lacking in the fun department, citing the imminent guild beta as proof of the confidence they have in their product.
Given the volume of information we were allowed to show off in our Massively goes to WAR coverage, we're inclined to side with Mark. For a site whose message of the day for many moons now has been, "The suspense is terrible. I hope it will last," we hope the writers and posters over at WHA regain their patience.

The kids over at WHA need to go play in the real world for a while, enlist in the military or do some community service, or better yet, go subscribe to Age of Conan and see what "released to soon" and "not fun" is really all about.
i want to see a debate by both lead devs from warhammer and age of conan on when a game should be released. would be a good one. :)

Just fyi, most of the WHA staff are in beta and have been for a while and we all very much enjoy the game. I think people just took this article a little too seriously, our Waaagh articles are meant to start up discussions about the more controversial/touchy topics, not start an actual controversy :)

1. Most of the "article" sounded like a whiny rant about not seeing information about the class the author likes. Wha wha they didn't talk about my class wha wha, is all I saw.
2. You blatantly said that Mythic was "tricking" it's fan base. Which is not really a discussion but more along the lines of starting a outright controversy.

WHA isn't a good source, in my opinion, to find well thought out pieces. I really wish Mythic would just avoid them in general, as this isn't their first whiny rantfest.
Mythic has done a great job of getting the info out there. No developer wants to tell everything, especially if they can't guarantee it will be in there for launch. Just look at some games (Hellgate) that talked about having so much, and yet, those things still aren't in the game they said they would have.
So Mythic has been brilliant in their marketing and giving out information. No one, NO ONE, has the right to demand any information about the game. WHA needs to put some tape over their mouths and go sit in the corner for a while. They really are a bunch of a selfish children.

This hits on what I was going to say. The WHA community really is a niche for this game. By that, I mean the most devoted and hardcore of WAR fans and followers are going to hang out and chat there. From a hardcore perspective, maybe you can make the argument that we haven't seen a lot of new, interesting information from EA Mythic yet (I'd personally argue the other way). But from a non-hardcore perspective, I think EA Mythic is doing a bang-up job. Seriously, consider how much information is out there for the person who is casually interested in this game.
