I wonder if that $10,000 prize is actually going to cost them anything at all, since they're paying in L$.

Over 2.5m L$ might trigger one heck of a risk assessment block :D

Well, I suppose a ticket to billing would help them sort it out if that sort of trade occurred. There SHOULD be paperwork to go with it.

If there isn't, one might be entitled to call unfair.

$10,000 USD in L$ costs the Lab nothing, and they even get some of it back in exchange fees if it is sold for USD again which would defray organizational costs. This is *amazingly* cheap for them.

When he was going on about early pioneers who struggle and bond together in groups who support each other, i started thinking about my own community here in SL. I thought awww, he's thinking about all us lil groups in SL that stick together through thick and thin drama....... but no, he was talking about businesses.

I'm sad he dislikes text based communication. Would SL drop text chat altogether, and make voice mandatory I'd be out of it due to domestic restrictions.

I wonder if injecting 2.700.000 L$ into the SL economy is a smart idea. It's like the government printing additional money with no backing...

Once per year, that's a drop in the economic bucket. Technically to maintain a stable economy, the currency in circulation has to grow (or shrink) in line with the availability of goods and services. In RL that's a really tricky calculation to figure out. In SL, though - the math is considerably simplified.

"...We're not really sure whose market, exactly is being disrupted, and that is rather a key criterion..."

Entertainment industry would be an obvious target. Very little on television is as entertaining as interracting with other people in virtual worlds. Second Life has the capability to promote performance art, especially music, beyond the television industry's reach and control.
